Shinto is a polytheist(kami worship)nature religion
, tends toward animism,
can be syncretized with other religions like Buddhism,
Is tied in with a Japanese identity
no one founder or revelator

Islam is a monotheistic revealed religion,
in its high formal forms rejects animism,
considers itself the full and true faith above and apart from all other religions,
has a universal missionary tendenccy not restricted to one ethnicity or nation
Muhammad(Mohammed) is its chief,final and ultimate prophet,definer and revelator. Muhammad did not think that he was founding a religion but a return to original monotheism.

shinto does have a holy text, the kojiki and i suppose the founder is Amaterasu. the only comparison i can directly think of is how islam and shinto have incorporated animistic spirits like jinn and kami into their belief systems. which come from a time before those religions existed.

Shinto does not have a founder nor does it have sacred scriptures, Islam does.

Shinto = Kamikazee, the most effective weapon used against higher technology in WW2.

Islam = Kamal Kazi, a guy who lives down the road from us.
