This question only really applies to christians in all seriousness..... though anyone else is free to answer (I just expect that the replies of Muslims, Atheists, Pagans and whatnot won't really help much here).

I'm just wondering how christians seem to know SO MUCH about God, Jesus, Heaven, Hell and all that lot when it suits them..... and not quite so much when it doesn't suit them..... much of which doesn't seem to be in the Bible at all.

Is it just artistic license or what?

I think you got your answer.

They use artistic license (i.e. whatever first pops into their head), ascribe it to faith, then brand it law.

That is why you have so many branches of christianity: because the bible has many words yet says very little... and people have tried to piece that together like an incomplete fossil. Naturally you'll end up with some people putting the spike on the nose and others putting the spike on the thumbs... and they WILL argue about it.

Are any of them really right though?
Of course not?
How the heck can anyone know conclusive facts about something that doesn't even exist in the first place?

This might sound like a strange request.... but could you stop goading them now?

What about Hare Krishnas?
Religion means to accept God.
But if you don't know what is God, we know. That is the difference. Ask this Christians, Mohammedans, and any other religious group, they have got a conception of God, ask them what is the form of God, what does He do, what is His activities, how is his planet where He lives, so many things. They do not know. But we know.
God left different scriptures to different levels of understanding of man kind, Bible, koran and the Vedas.
Just like in some dictionary the word is explained in one word. The small pocket dictionary is also dictionary, and that Webster's International big dictionary, that is also dictionary. The difference is that international dictionary, you get details of one word. Similarly, any scripture is perfectly giving direction towards understanding what is God. But actually how God is great, how He is working, how His laws are working, all these things you can find in the Bhagavad-gitä and Srimad-Bhägavatam.

Thank you.

It's interpretation of scriptures. Each has their own way of seeing things, and some things are really plain, others need some thinking about. There are many things that I can think of that other christian sects believe in that we do, and can give numerous scriptures to back it up, but their understanding of the scriptures are different then mine.

There is also a little thing called personal revelation. God can tell you things if he wants to, and if you are ready to understand them. You can also pray for answers to questions.

Some is just what someone thinks is right, so that is artistic license I guess.

Because on the time of Jesus' lifestyles, demise and deification, the subject of the death God-guy was once very standard. A traditional detail of many death God-guy myths is that the person dies and descends into the underworld wherein he is living for 3 days. On the 3rd day he returns to the sector of the residing; that is the rebirth. He then ascends into Heaven/paradise to live completely wherein he turns into a God and intercedes for the ones individuals who worship him.

I'm a christian and still don't know my way around the bible...do you? All I know that what ever is written in the bible is true to its word. Now some preachers emphasize like other bibles like the NIV so we understand it better. There just trying to make us understand the word more easier. As for your question yes there are people who are gonna tell you they can prophesy but always remember when your talking to someone and it doesn't make sense ask them to give you the scripture and if they can't than their truly not saying the truth..get what I mean?

I believe what the Bible tells me and what the Holy Spirit reveals to me. This is what Christianity is about- a personal relationship. Also- God does not change. Anyone who claims he does is wrong. We as humans do however experience times of stress where we feel far from God and his voice (through the Holy Spirit) is not as clear.

We know about the character of God so much because we let the Holy Spirit to guide us. We believe that the Bible is true.

I agree this is a good question. I think some of it is faith. I also think a lot of people (not everyone) does not know the bible and they just hear things and assume it’s there. I also think things are taken out of context and a lot of it is just people stretching the truth.

I think a lot of it is tradition passed down for so long that it is accepted as part of the creed itself; usually they are things that were speculated on by respected church leaders and then evolved into "common wisdom."

Take it with a can of Morton's.

That the Bible doesn't actually cover? That's where we get it from. Try reading it.
