...What factors decided the formation of the NT canon? Far from being an arbitrary process, the formation of the canon was the result of carefully-weighed choices over time by concerned church officials and members. Later votes on the canon were merely the most definitive steps taken at the end of a long and careful, sometimes difficult, process. Grant [Gran.FormNT, 10] notes that the NT canon was...

"...not the product of official assemblies or even of the studies of a few theologians. It reflects and expresses the ideal self-understanding of a whole religious movement which, in spite of temporal, geographical, and even ideological differences, could finally be united in accepting these 27 diverse documents as expressing the meaning of God's revelation in Jesus Christ and to his church. Let us now briefly consider a few of the books that did not make the canon cut, and look for reasons why. Again, any time these titles are brought up, it is a good idea to see if whoever flies them on the flagpole knows what they actually contain and what their history is. If they do NOT know, then they are just blowing hot air or arguing for the sake of it....

...The process of canonization was complex and lengthy. It was characterized by a compilation of books that Christians found inspiring in worship and teaching, relevant to the historical situations in which they lived, and consonant with the Old Testament.

Contrary to popular misconception, the New Testament canon was not summarily decided in large, bureaucratic Church council meetings, but rather developed very slowly over many centuries. This is not to say that formal councils and declarations were not involved, however. Some of these include the Council of Trent of 1546 for Roman Catholicism (by vote: 24 yea, 15 nay, 16 abstain)[3], the Thirty-Nine Articles of 1563 for the Church of England, the Westminster Confession of Faith of 1647 for Calvinism, and the Synod of Jerusalem of 1672 for Greek Orthodoxy....

John warned us about the gnostics, and I would be inclined to take the word of one of Jesus's actual disciples over whoever created the bibleandscience website. Similarly, muslims are the ones clamoring the loudest for us to read the gospel of thomas/barnabas, etc., since they don't believe many core biblical truths their support has to be viewed as a sign that the books were rightfully excluded from the Bible.

I believe the Bible as we have it now is as God intended not man. Also the gnostic gospels were never even considered to be true. 1 John was written to directly oppose the gnostic doctrine.

Because they are not part of the original text that was written. Anyone can write anything and say it belongs in the Bible weather it is written today, or 2000 years ago, if it was meant to be included in the Bible then it would be in there. The Bible plainly states that nothing is to be added or taken away, and if any man does that he is to cursed.

Probably because of the lack of availability. A lack of trust. And basically they are not a part of our common heritage and experience. You have access to them? Share your knowledge instead of going on the offensive.

Because those books are fake.......and God ordained it to be so. The apocrypha contradicts the closed canon of Scripture

What we have in Scripture today is a direct result of the sovereignty of God

Because all these other so-called "gospels" have long ago been declared heretical.
