It was in the middle of the Yucatan jungle (no joke).
The time was in the mid-70's. My family went on a Cozumel vacation and my dad and I took one of those day trips across to the mainland to see the ruins. This involved a couple of hour bus ride each way through the jungle. Lunch was included in the price of the tour. So... there we were in the middle of the jungle and the bus pulls over at what was basically a thatch roofed hut. The inside was fairly nicely appointed, nothing fancy, but comfortable. They served a dish called "Chicken Yucatan". This was basically a half chicken wrapped in a banana leaf with various herbs and spices and slow cooked in a pit. OH MY FLIPPIN' GOD!!! To this day it remains the best meal I have ever eaten, and believe me, as the son of a gourmet chief who enjoys cooking himself that is saying something.

Spaghetti and I ate it at home because my boyfriend made it for dinner. He is a great cook. He buys angel hair pasta and Barilla's roasted garlic sauce. He warms up the sauce while the pasta is cooking and adds fresh mushrooms, a hint of garlic, a few tiny pieces of jalapenos for a little spicy kick, red/green peppers and tops it off with tiny slices of tomatoes from the can. Then he puts the sauce on top of the noodles when it's finished but doesn't mix them together. It is so delicious, especially with his home made garlic bread and some Parmesan cheese. Yummy! Served with wine is the best!

This summer in the south of France. We found a lovely restaurant by the sea and had the best sea food platter ever followed by a gorgeous local casserole made with tender beef, white wine, tomatoes, olives and much more. It was served with baby potatoes and lots of fresh and very tasty vegetables. We had to have cheese afterwards because the cheese tray looked so good and then a sweet. We picked rum babas. The food was absolutely scrumptious, beautiful scenery and our waiter absolutely lovely. He made us feel we really mattered to him! That was early July and we can't wait to go back next year LOL

On the far side of Cozumel in Mexico, in the mid 90's. That part of the island was not well developed. The cuurents there are treacherous. Some friends and I drove over anyway and found a few huts. We stopped at one that was the size of a gas station restroom. There were four tables out front in the sand. We ordered beer and , on a whim, camarones de ajo, ... garlic shrimp. About five dozen arrived on huge platter, swimming in butter and fresh garlic, and were the most perfectly cooked grilled shrimp I've ever had.
For the four of us, it was .... $ 4.00.

A seafood feast in a Mom and Pop restaurant on the docks in Cagliari, Sardinia. The fish was live when it was ordered. The Chianti was chilled. The seafood was cooked without oil and served immediately. The people that ran the place were totally hospitable. We ate for 3 hours that night.

The best meal I had ever had was in a restaurant owned by the French actor Gerard Depardieu. I can't remember what I had but every course left you literally wanting more but strangely left you feeling satisfied.....
.....and anymore would had spoilt the food itself. I want to go back to that place!

A selection of raw oysters and clams, followed by sea bass with ginger and garlic. At the Blue Ribbon restaurant in SoHo, New York City, 2005. The best raw bar in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD... I still sigh with delight at the memory...

The night I came home and my husband made crab stuffed flounder and set a beautiful table and had the whole house clean and lit with candles. Not only was it an unexpected weekday treat to come home to, but it was super yummy! I have since requested this meal many times on the occasions he cooks!
