The only thing I ever pray for is that God will hurry up with the rapture and take all the whiny annoying Christians away so us heathens can finally have some peace and quiet.

When I think about it, I have to admit that it's about half/half. The majority of the time I am praying for my family, my friends, and my son, to be happy and healthy. But I think that praying for those things must be a bit selfish, because it is something I want for them, from God. It makes me happy to want them well, and so I pray for them. In that regard, if asking for their safety and happiness is selfish, I don't care. God would forgive me this small thing, I think. All people are selfish at least a little, but that's where self-preservation and sense of worth come into play. Those can be attributed to the
recognition of the gift God gave you of life. So, is being selfish truly bad at that point?

I do believe when I started my spiritual journey, "back in the dark ages," I prayed many selfish prayers.

Hopefully, like a well seasoned wine, I have matured and actually pray for the well being of others. (Even if they don't look, act, smell, or believe like me.) Because life is hard and God's mercy and love weighs far beyond the framework of my minute and miscall understanding of the whole thing.

We live in a selfish and greed driven world. (Almost hopelessly selfish.)

Honesty strips us bare and the picture in not so pretty for this concept called humanity.

G-d gave prayer as a gift to us, so if you pray for yourself it’s ok that’s what he wants. I think most people pray for themselves and others sometimes. For a majority of Christians/believers they have a “friendship” with G-d and just talk to him about different things they experience not that they necessarily beg or ask for things although that certainly comes up from time to time.

I try not to be selfish in my prayers. I do try to keep others ahead of myself. But, yes, I do pray for needs in my life. But there is nothing wrong with that.

When I pray... I, of course, ask for forgiveness of my sins. I pray for my family, friends, and anyone else who is on my mind at the time. I don't so much pray for 'things' but, more for guidance and assurance that I am making the right decisions in my life. I pray for things to be made clearer and for me to see my purpose. And I give thanks for the things I have and for the things to come because I have faith that I will always have what I really need.

Most of my prayers are for my children and some for me. However, I don't think that's selfish to pray for one's self because we are commanded to in scripture.

I ask nothing for myself. I pray for my kids, my mother, and my dearest friend. Is that contradictory, for me to pray when I've always proclaimed not to believe?

Truthfully, I don't know what I believe anymore. Odd things have been happening in my life, unexplainable things. So now I sit up, take notice, and wonder. And I pray.
