You are correct. I don't think there is anything wrong with a man having more then one wife. Of course, I come from a religion that had polygamy in it's past, so....
As far as David: His wives were given to him by the Lord, until the last one. This one he took without authorization from God, and had a man killed so he could have what he wanted. That was his downfall. It wasn't having many wives. Read 2 Sam. 12:7-9 For the case of David.
There was also Abraham, Isaac, Jacob- all of which had multiple wives that were given to them by the Lord. So, if the Lord says it's ok, then it's ok with me.

The first problem he has is their ages.
The second problem is polygamy is illegal.
No his writings are not read, it is the writings of Brigham Young who was also a polygamist. The LDS church now bans polygamy. Why do you think they were all ran out of their home state years back? This wacko David is running a cult that is no longer respected by the LDS church. How can it be ok to have sex with 13 and 14 year old girls.

Polygamy was early introduced, contrary to the divine arrangement at the beginning. The Lord gave to Adam one wife showing His order in that respect. But after the fall, men chose to follow their own sinful desires; and as the result, crime and wretchedness rapidly increased.
Polygamy became so widespread that it ceased to be regarded as a sin, but it was no less a violation of the law of God, and was fatal to the sacredness and peace of the family relation. Abraham's marriage resulted in evil, not only to his own household, but to future generations.
David married Abigail. He was already the husband of one wife, but the custom of the nations of his time had perverted his judgment and influenced his actions. Even great and good men have erred in following the practices of the world. The bitter result of marrying many wives was sorely felt throughout all the life of David.
The sin of polygamy is one of those things that God "winked at" in those times of ignorance.
"Truly, these times of ignorance God winked at, but now commands all men everywhere to repent." Acts 17:30.

God never appoved of David's wives. His life is recorded as an example for future generations. Just because someone does something in the Bible doesn't mean that God approved of it. It is simply stating what actually happened.

Would you mind showing me one place in scripture where God condoned polygamy? It is not in there. David was also a murderer. He had a man killed because he had gotten the man's wife pregnant. The people both in the Old Testament and New Testament are far from perfect. They sin. They fail God. They are a lot like we are today. Not perfect just forgiven.

It is wrong if it is illegal. It is wrong if there is abuse. It is wrong if all wives are not treated equally. It is wrong if young men are driven from the community. Other wise, it's Ok.

or a woman having many husbands for that matter.
dunno what the big deal is...why can't a person have more than one life partner? i guess the traditionalists would find it a "threat to their moral values", who knows.
