I have these three cats. I often ponder their intelligence level. As an example, as soon as I throw out my litterboxes to get new ones, which happens every second day, all of a sudden all three of them have to go to the bathroom, during the transition period. Almost like they know I am going to be replacing them. Another example----whenever I watch a sporting event on TV, all three of them try to "catch" the ball that is being displayed on TV. Also, if my reflection from my watch dances on the walls, they are climbing them, often with hilarious results. So---my question is----how smart can they truly be?? Have cats ever taken things similar to IQ tests??

cats are really under estimated in their intelligence.
They (like dogs.) can predict if some-one is having an epelltic fit, but they more sensative to this than dogs are.
I got a diesel engine now, and its sounds like any other engine, but they know i have pulled up, parked up, and 3 faces are waiting for me. My friend who as bighorn you cant hear the engine on her, but they know its him. same as when phone goes, my oldest is rather fond of him and will wake up and jump on knee when he rings. its quite spooky really.
I am sure my oldest winds me up, i finish hoovering up and he then goes straight into cat litter tray, comes out and i get litter every where. sod. lol. My 2nd youngest is a raggy and is my Dog if you like, any-one comes near my door at night he will growl like mad, while other 2 just look. 1 time he did this i looked out of window and saw a kid trying to steal my car, so it was thanks to my raggy i stopped my car from being pinched. some how they seem to know..

Cats can't take the IQ tests they give to dogs, dogs are pack animals and motivated by rewards from the leader. Cats definately have intelligence but it's not a doglike one. They don't do well in mazes for instance because for the dog the reward is at the center. For cats the reward is to check EVERY nook and cranny for possible prey--meaning they'll take forever to get to the center. The center is not the reward they want. Different tests needed to be devised for cats.
This site below may help.
As to the litter box thing--you took it away, leaving an empty space where they can poop in because it's where the box WAS but you suddenly made it interesting. Ditto for new litter, everyone has to be the one to 'initiate' the new stuff. It's just fun.
The ball and the light are both stimulating the hunting of prey activity which all cats love. Not an intelligence test kind of thing, it's more about what's hard wired into the feline behavior rather than a logic or problem solving thing.

Cat's are like people; their have their own personalities.
I have two cats; I raised them from the time they were 2 weeks old. They are about 6 months now. the runt is the quietest, most patient cat I've had. I was dangling her mouse infront of her and she acted uninterested, so I stop and just held the mouse; two seconds later, seeing I was distracted, she took the mouse and ran. She also knows that her claws hurt you, so she will not use her claws on us, and if she does accidently, she'll lick the wound. She'll also hiss at strangers too.
Her big sister, is what I call my "blonde eyed beauty." She runs into walls, kept trying to suck the water out of her bowl for nearly a month(she got it up her nose) and ran away from the catnip mouse I bought her.
So really, they all vary. Not all cats are cut from the same fabric.

It's not a matter of smartness or intelligence. They're just average animals that react to stimuli around them. I've seen cats chase those laser lights all over the place, even into walls.
Maybe you should video them and send the clip in to funniest animals. You may get some money. They sound like adorable kitties.

Not by other cats, by vets, nor by me. Why do you think they were worshiped in ancient Egypt? Cats rule; dogs drool!

I think cats are much smarter than people think. Smarter than dogs even. Cats can feed themselves by hunting....dogs eat garbage,,,,,nough said

They are just doing what cats do; they like to play, they are curious, they like to do new and different things.
Kind of like me, come to think of it. Do you think I am unintelligent? Gee, I hope not.
