Torah or Pentateuch
Moses probably didn't actually write them seeing as how they're written in the 3rd person

No, even though people attribute the first 5 books to have been written by Moses he didn't. The first 5 books is an accumulation of information from Moses and others. At a certain point of time, probably around 721 and 586BCE the final accumulation was put together. If you look at Deutoronomy, you'll probably find a more comprehensive text of what Moses probably wrote. If you look througout the first 5 books you'll see that a lot of the information repeats itself. Therefore, many scholors agree that they were written at different times and for different purposes.

That's the traditional account. But if you do some real scholarship it becomes apparent that these books must ahve been written AFTER the purported time of Moses (whose existence cannot be verified). They contain a large number of anachronisms.
The first SIX books of the Old Testament are a single unit. My guess for the actual author is Ezra, sometime during or after the Babylonian Exile.

It is doubtful if Moses ever actually existed. Most of the story contradicts what archaeology tells us the facts were.
Not only that, The pentatuech has Moses telling about his own death and funeral if he supposedly wrote them himself.
The titles of the books are always about their subjects back then. There were no such things as copyright laws to protect the interests of the authors so they almost never bothered to note who they were written by.
I know people will give a thumbs down on this but you can do the research easily for yourself.
Scourge and Skep Doc are very close to the truth I think.

Jewish and Christian tradition holds that Moses wrote the first 5 books (The Pentateuch)
However the books were clearly written and edited by numerous anonymous authors over several hundred years according to scientific analysis of the most ancient manuscripts. Do you think Moses actually wrote about his own death? Furthermore there is not a shred of evidence that Moses was a real person, but was a fictional "hero" character adapted from Egyptian and Assyrian mythology by the early Israelites when they were creating a "founder father" backstory. (the same applies to Abraham, and Joshua..more fictional characters without a shred of archeological evidence they every exisited.)
Learning about actual history is quite interesting, but you won't find much of it in the Bible. Please read other books now and then.

in my opinion the bible became written by way of an extremely clever individual of his or her time. i do no longer think of that absolutely everyone will ever understand the actuality. it ought to be stated albeit in a blasphemous style of way that the bible became written to create regulation and order in a time the place issues had have been given out of hand. Come on, if we seem at objectively if human beings like David Blane or different magicians of in the present day the place alive for the duration of this era who ought to reason illusions to illustrate, may well be seen to be the messiah interior the day of Christ. If Christ even existed interior the 1st place!!! i think of it became all made up, my different concept is that JC became a conjurer, and extremely sturdy at his activity. Be extreme!, the properly conventional quote from a blind guy 'i became blind and now i will work out!!!', he ought to of had a bout of optical neuritis which motives non everlasting blindness, this treatments itself by way of itself in maximum circumstances it purely takes a mutually as without medicine. as far as i might say which you're actual Moses did no longer write the bible. i think of a team of clever persons wrote the bible and while they kicked the bucket i've got self assurance that their grand infants and great grandchildren carried on with the activity as though it the place a family participants agency.

Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy are the Torah/Pentateuch written by Moses. Of course some believe that others wrote the Torah and not Moses, but if this be so, then Moses had scribes write what he dictated to them.

fact is, until we can travel back in time no one will never know the answer to that question. all we can do is choose to accept someone else opinion or not to accept it.
besides does it really matter who wrote it to begin with considering all the editing that has been done since?
