Identify what's "not right" with yourself, then step back and see if there's really a problem or whether you're comparing yourself to some too-high ideals or someone else. If the problem is real, sit down and write down how you can overcome it. Are the steps achievable on your own or do you need help? Cut up your problems into smaller pieces and tackle one piece at a time. Remember, failure doesn't mean defeat, it only means delay.

It's funny, I was going to ask almost the same exact question, but I didn't. I have little to no self-esteem, I never had a father to teach me how to be a "real man", I'm 40 pounds over-weight, but you know what I do everytime I get down? I say f**k it, and get angry. I use that anger to push me through the hard times, and I consequently work even harder than I would have other wise. I've been taking two steps forward one step back for about 7 years now, working against obsessive compulsive disorder, anxiety, stress, depression, suicidal tendencies, arguements, but now I've figured everything out:Who I am and who I want to be. Good luck! "Nothing in this world that is worth having comes easy"

Well, a little more detail would have been helpful, but basically start with small steps. Make the smallest goal you can and accomplish that, even if it's only to brush your teeth every day for a week. Once you do the small things, you'll begin to have the confidence to do bigger things, like change jobs, move, break up with somebody, etc.

For me what works is one thing at a time, prioritise the pile in the order of things you want to achieve or get rid of first. A big help is realising you can't be all things to all people. Be true to yourself first. In my current job it took a year to realise that someone elses crisis didn't have to become my disaster unless I chose to let it. Chin up, keep plugging away one thing at a time, it will get better - just takes time. Positive thinking books borrowed from the library are good. "Dont worry be happy" is a good one.

Do something small that you can succeed at. I started with making a nice dinner every night. One step at a time. Try not to be so hard on yourself, there is probably more going right in your life that you are giving yourself credit for...

NO MORE EXCUSES! Are you one to make dozen excuses? Read self-improvement books in the book stores. There is no reason for people to not have an answer in todays society. Please don't say I cannot afford the books to purchase because I see lots of folks reading the books right there in the book store.
