Does your apartment building allow pets? If so, I would adopt the kitten for myself while trying to find her owner(s). If no one claimed her/him within a reasonable period of time, you can keep him/her as yours. If the building you live in does not allow pets, do you know of a person who would give the adorable kitten a good home? If so, contact that person. I would not contact the animal shelter. Unfortunately, they cannot keep animals indefinitely. If you don't know of anyone who would give the kitty a good home, contact PetsMart or A.R.K. (Animals Rescued with Kindnenss). Also, there is an organization called H.A.R.P.S. which is like A.R.K. PetsMart could help you find the number to these organizations. The reason PetsMart can help you is that these organizations work with PetsMart. H.A.R.P.S. and A.R.K. take in animals and put them not in a kennel but in what they call foster care. They have a network of caring volunteers who take these animals into their homes and treat them like their own pets. They teach the animals what they should know to be good feline or good canine citizens. Then they bring the animals, a few each time to a PetsMart Adoption Fair where two the A.R.K. or H.A.R.P.S. volunteers screen prospective applicants. There is a four page application that the prospective applicant has to fill out and in addition, they are interviewed by the volunteer and then the decision is made whether the prospective applicant and the animal belong together. If so, animal and new owner leave happily together. If there isn't a PetsMart near you, these organizations should be listed in the phone book. Also, you can try the Internet. Just type in A.R.K. or H.A.R.P.S. You may have to add something about animals but I am sure that you can find it. Good luck!! Also good luck to Kitty! :)

Check to see if it has a tag to make sure it doesn't have an owner. Go to the ground floor and to whoever owns the apartment complex and ask to see if anyone has a lost kitten, or do they know of anyone who may or may not have a kitten in the apartment. If they don't find anything, And your for sure its a stray, i'd take it to a vet to get it checked out to make sure it doesn't have anything.

If it does have anything, i'm sure it'll be easily treatable. After the vet i'd buy a small cat basket and get a few towels and bunch them in there in a circle. From there, you can let the kitten roam free in your apartment to get situated - but make sure you have nothing out that he\she can get into or mess up!

If its hungry or thirsty, get a small bowl at where the Kittens head will be able to reach. Get a small plate then. If it has decent teeth and is big enough, cut up a cold hotdog or two into very little bits. My kittens seem to love that and can't get enough of 'em.

Then place some milk in the bowl and let her eat. After shes finished, you can show her the basket that you had placed down on the ground, if you don't have a basket, a large cardboard box with a cut out opening (make sure its dull so he\she doesn't get cut) and bunch the towels in there.

Most kittens like this, because they feel more secure and "snuggled".

Keep asking around the apartment and look for fliers for any Lost Kitten ads.

There you go. ^_^

1st and foremost ask around in your building if anyone lost a kitten, if no one claims her... KEEP HER!!! take her to the vet and take care of her... because if you give her to a shelter she has a chance of never getting adopted and if no one adopts her they will put her to sleep and kill her! because there are too many animals in shelters... so please ask around! and if you have it in your heart, PLEASE KEEP HER! :)

Why don't you just keep it? It apparently needs a home!
