a few weeks ago we rented a new game and it just wouldnt find it. we turned it on and off about 3 times and finally found it and we didnt think anything of it. then last week we rented another game, as well as a ps2 game. it wouldnt find the ps3 one again, but had no problem with the ps2. i went to work and when i got home my fiance said it still wouldnt find the ps3 game, or the blue ray movies we had, but regualr dvds were working fine. we've had the ps3 since febuary and this is the first time this is happening. we emailed sony, but they said we have to call them while we have access to the ps3, but we dont know when thats going to be because the hours are business hours and well we both work... sigh. hoping someone else has dealt with this and can give some insight.

I have mine since May and it hasn't have any problems. However I'd recommend to do to the PlayStation forums on playstation.com, they might be able to help better on the subject.

so after 3 times of rebooting the ps3 the game finally worked? sounds like dust on the laser "eye" or a faulty laser since the regular dvds work. I had mine since March and so far it still works as new. I would advise u to change the ps3 from the store u bought it from if possible or send it to Sony for a replacement....trying to clean the laser unit of ps3 might be tricky and complicated..I never opened up my ps3 so I woudnt know how to clean the inside.

If it's reading some, but not your Blu-ray/PS3 games, it may well be the lens is a little dirty (the blu-ray discs have smaller/ finer encoding on them.)
Don't know if there are specific blu-ray lens cleaners out there (presume there ought to be), and i'm not savvy enough to know if a normal DVD one would help or not.
I know that's a bit wishy-washy but i wouldn't want to give you the wrong advice and accidently screw your system.
