Purebred Poms and purebred Yorkies end up at shelters too. Many will die in shelters due to irresponsible breeders and a shortage of space in rescues.

If you decide to go the puppy route, here is contact info for the Pom club and Yorkie club. Email them and ask them to refer you to reputable breeders near Fresno:

Actually most of the animals in shelters are pure bred but finding a Yorkie or a Pomeranian would take some time and patience. I think an important question you might ask yourself is why are you so concerned with the "purity" of the animals breed? Do you plan on parading it through a dog show? I don't mean to criticize but I question your motivation. Think this through and if you're still determined to find a toy breed I would suggest you open your mind to shelter dogs. If you adopt an adult dog not only are you doing something wonderful for the dog you know exactly what you're getting, who cares about bloodline.

Go to the spca! The fresno shelter is huge and does have pure breeds as well. Also, I don't know if you know this but the Bakersfield and Kern County shelters have about a 95% kill rate for dogs. Why would you want to spend $1000 or more on a dog from a breeder when you could save a life?

There are about a dozen ads in the Fresno paper for Yorkies alone. People apparently think they're a cash cow because of their popularity right now and there are so many to adopt. There are also Poms in there. Also, try the shelters and rescues, because there are so many there too!

SPCA and other shelters/pounds have purebred dogs and cats and yes I have seen a purebred Pom&yorkie at a rescue shelter.
Don't forget the SPCA is not the only shelter around your area.

Purebred dogs are at shelters, you are not the only person who presumed only crossbreds were at the shelter

Rescues have alot of pure breds, even small lap dogs, you'd be surprised.
try http://www.epupz.com but ONLY buy from a reputable breeder. I'm sure you know that already, though.
