I don't usually ask a lot of questions, but when I do it is usually because I'm curious about what others have to say. I do, however; notice a lot of people from a particular group who post questions simply to try to make a punchline point. What i mean is they post a "question" with what they believe to be a question filled with valid points that will persuade others to think what they think. The problem with it is there's a good chance they don't even read the answers to those questions. They post simply to make their invalid points about things that have already been disproven. They expect their "question" to change the minds of all the people in the opposing group, and they don't read the answers they receive.... most likely because they are either A) Too stupid to comprehend most of what is being said B) They're afraid it will make sense and their viewpoint will change as a result or C) They just think so highly of themselves that their opinion is the only one that matters to them.
I think a lot of people do post for self-gratification/confirmation on the things that they already believe to be true.

I only ask 2 kinds of questions. One is serious, and wanting viewpoints across the spectrum. Perspectives from various religions, and that shows me what impact that religion has had based on individual personality. The other is trying to get a few laughs.
Nothing on this site will change my personal beliefs, but it can clear up some misconceptions.

I don't. I yearn for a serious, interesting new point to ponder. I don't usually get one.
Based upon some of the askers' choices for 'best answer,' it does seem that parroting an asker's assumption is the most desired result for many posters here.

No, I am fully secure in my own opinions without needing any confirmation by others. My opinions are based on many years of study. What I do not understand is how some others can hold the opinions they do.

I'm here mainly to answer. When I ask a question, it's usually to point out how stupid a similar question is someone else posted (usually a non-question posed as a question with an attached sermon). Such as "Have you accepted Jesus as your savior?" might get me to ask, "Have you accepted the Flying Spaghetti Monster as your savior?. I have asked one or two serious questions, though.

The couple of times I asked a question (yeah...never again...) it was simply to gain a better understanding of why people believed the way they did.
I had questions about Christianity I wanted answered, and tried to get it.
Never really did either...too many conflicting stories...

I'd have figured you capable of a more original question than this one Dekey.
Oh, and I come here seeking relief from boredom... nothing else. I don't need confirmation nor validation of my beliefs... and there aren't any other badgers on this site anyway to the best of my knowledge..... but neither am I here to change my views. I'm just here because I'm bored.

Yep, usually, I am trying to make a point, which is useless, but there are times when I am truly trying to understand why people think the way they do.

No, I'm am generally seeking (with varying degrees of success) to back into a clever point.
I pick the most well-backed answer......and if there aren't any, I pick the one that makes me laugh.
