Oh, god..I feel for you. I had jaw surgery when I was in highschool. My jaw was wired shut for 8 weeks. I was back to school shortly after the surgery.. don't remember how long the actual recovery time was. After they took my wires off it was another 2 weeks before I could eat normally and fully open my mouth.

As for your food while you're chewer is out of commission, protein shakes, instant breakfasts, etc. Mac n cheese from the blender is still pretty tasty. Pork chops from the blender not so much. Now that I have a baby I've learned that some baby food is pretty durn tasty! Peas, carrots, the chicken noodle dinner... mmm mmmm

My recommendation: make sure the surgery is actually necessary. I regret my surgery. They told me no one ever regrets it but both I and my sister do (she had it done at the same time to reduce a gap between her upper and lower jaw). My parents were convinced (swindled?) by the oral surgeons and orthodontists that it was crucial when really, I'd be just fine with out the metal bars in my chin. And now should something happen to my brain I can't get an MRI.

What was done:
My lower jaw was extended and for a short time after the surgery my overbite was gone, but over time it retracted back. The jaw is still long enough only they never gave me exercises or anything to extend the muscles and keep them from pulling things back to the way they were. Also, they raised the roof of my mouth which I was not aware they were going to do. They said my tongue was too large and needed extra space. That alteration has caused me no end of irritation as my tongue doesn't know where to go.. even now it seeks that nice round resting place.

The surgery itself wasn't too bad, I was unconcious and they give you a morphine drip for the pain. Just don't eat anything beforehand that you can't filter through your teeth. You will throw up when you wake up from all the stuff you swallow during surgery (both my sister and I did). EG: If you have frenchfries and you puke 'em up, you'll have to swallow them back down like I did. blech.

The pain during healing will be pretty heavy. To this day vicodin and codene do nothing for me due to the tolerance I built up.

This is getting long, if you want to discuss this further drop me an e=mail.

Best of luck.

I had surgical treatment for my under chunk final 365 days. I had 2 surgical procedures to repair my jaw. the 1st one replaced into in June and that replaced into whilst they placed a distractor in my mouth that's what they used to bypass my larger jaw forward. the 2d replaced into in September to get rid of the distractor. i don't understand how plenty your visual charm will replace, yet mine replaced fairly plenty. once I went lower back to college my acquaintances did not even understand me! Like i could wave to them and that they could supply me a grimy look thinking "who's that female?" They finally knew it replaced into me whilst the instructor presented me. yet yeah, it replaced right into a cool and humorous adventure. Oh and to respond to your question, i could do it lower back. i in my opinion like my visual charm. btw do not decide for the mint flavored anesthesia. it is a few sturdy stuff XD good success with surgical treatment!

THERE IS NO WAY TO GIVE A DEFINITIVE ANSWER BECAUSE EVERYONE HAS THEIR OWN RESPONSE TO HEALING AND EACH SURGERY IS DIFFERENT.
