Ever hear of a Rorschach test?
I also wonder if some of these images are scams; for example, I've thought about engraving the face of JC or Mary on a griddle, then cooking up french toast, pancakes, etc. Ebay, here I come, suckers get your money ready!

1) the mind is so good at pattern recognition that some times it goes a bit too far and sees patterns where there are none.
2) People see what they want to see.
Come on guys, is a piece of toast burnt in a vaguely person like shape really a miracle? Or just random chance. For a miracle I want my toast to pop up in a full colour image that I do not have to squint and hold the toast at a 30 degree angle to possibly look like something.
A signature would be good too.

I was an atheist until this very moment, but now I see the light and believe! Sinners, repent! It's time to worship the great toaster god in the sky!! I vow to wander the lands spreading the word of "Applianceology" to all mankind! I also vow to write a new religious text of two parts, the old and new toasterment. There will be ten condements too or something. Danielle x

I think some people use this to attract attention and do the church no favours, but as to authentic apparitions that defy human bias you should check out the miracle of the Sun witnessed at Fatima in 1917 by over 70,000 people including members the masonic government and newspaper reporters of the time.

People see what they want to see.
Religious people find themselves defending their belief system constantly (more often than necessary, as they aren't under attack).
I think they look for these things to try and prove to non-believers and themselves that a higher power exists.
In reality, it's like an ink blot test. Some people see the virgin mary and jesus...some people see coitus and butterflies.

The human mind is well adapted to find patterns in chaos. The brain does not like randomness and will often try to find meaning in the meaningless. Faces in clouds, the face on mars, and Jesus on a Danish are all part of this.

Look in the clouds. You're guaranteed to see suggestive shapes. If you're an especially "religious" person, it's likely that your visions will take a religious form. All of these types of things are "ink blot tests."

While out foraging for mushrooms yesterday, I saw a lump of soil that looked rather like Chuck Norris.
Is it a holy sign?

You'd think she'd just show up as a person or ghost or something, instead of appearing on random everyday items.
