christians say be good in this life enjoy the rewards in the next... lets assume thats true.... what about animals... dogs, pigs, dolphins etc why do they exist

yeah but we only eat at best a dozen species of animal so what about the rest

Arguing from within the Bible, to provide for and be enjoyed by us. I think that's a belief that has led to a lot of environmental rape.

I disagree that the point of life is to be good and to get into heaven. The point or purpose in life is to seek God and come to know God and to find our joy in Him forever. Heaven is not the goal; heaven is just a place where God and those who want God will be. God Himself is the only goal.
God created the world for His pleasure and that includes the animals. I hope to find out more about it eventually.
He has shown you, O people, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and love mercy and walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8

First, being "good" will not get you to heaven!
Second, Gen 1 gives the answer to your question:
Then God said, "Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you; and to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the sky and to every thing that moves on the earth which has life, I have given every green plant for food"; and it was so. (Gen 1:29-30)
PS The only way to heaven is through faith in Jesus Christ!

actually Christians say believe in Jesus as your Savior in order to be saved. It has nothing to do with being good.
Good works are fruits of faith.
To answer your question: animals provide food and companionship. Plants supply food and oxygen.
