I'm not sure he doesn't, but I suspect in the end you are right and that is sad. In this country religion shouldn't matter, but sadly it does and many not-to well informed Christians see Mormons as part of a cult (not true).
I see Mormons as just as valid a faith as any other I can think of and they may well be right about Jesus in America, appearing among native Americans.
No faith has all the answers and few have none. I personally will not vote for Mitt Romney, but I think his religion should not matter. Politics do and I am an Independent voter, but lean to democrats, so that is my reason. Perhaps some day we will get past the religion prejudice, but as long as there is a vocal, evangelical and fundamentalist right wing minority with too much power, that will not happen. The root of prejudice against mainstream Christians and most other faiths lie with this legalistic and intolerant group who insist that you see it their way or take the highway. They have power beyond their numbers it seems.

The funny thing is that he's one of the most Christian candidates there are.
Sure Hillary can say she's anything, but does she really have faith, believe in it, and practice it? Gulliani?
Yes it's sad that people are:
#1. So ignorant about Mormons,
#2. Keep saying Mormons aren't Christians when they are,
#3. Will vote (or not vote) for someone ONLY because of his/her faith with no regard to anything else.
I don't know if I'll vote for Mitt yet or not, but he's probably the most sound candidate when it comes to fiscal responsibility and economic strength.
He has not flip-flopped....he's changed his opinions. Flip flopping is changing your opinion with each audience (e.g. Hillary).

I think it's sad that a religion that teaches only how to be the best person you can be is held AGAINST a presidential candidate.
I'm not really looking at Romney, but not because of his faith. But, I would rather have a man of faith, even if it's a faith I don't 100% agree with, than a man like, say, Clinton, who can't seem to keep it in his pants, who lies like a dog (he TOTALLY lost me on that "I did not inhale" crap). I know Romney is a politician, but at least he has principles.

I think it's sad that the most qualified intellectuals in the country don't even bother to run for President because they know an atheist will never get elected.

What makes you think he doesn't have a chance? He has raised more money than the others, and is one of the front runners. he also has proven he can win in a Democrat state.

I don't care that he is a Mormon, but it pisses me off that he refuses to answer most questions, flip flops and laughed at Ron Paul during the debate whenever he was asked a question.
Such a great religious guy, eh?

I hope his eventual political demise is not religious bigotry. Several of the "R" candidate are deeply religious and have no shot at winning either.

I think it's sad when politics are mixed with religion.
I could care less about a politician's religion unless he/she is basing his/her stance on the issues off his/her religion.
