She is a woman, she had a baby. He happened to be Jesus and I respect her role in all of that, but I am bewildered by my Catholic friends who have statues and pictures of Mary and pray to her. I am not trying to be disrespectful, I am just trying to put it all in perspective. Any intelligent help is much appreciated.

I'm not Catholic any longer - but according to them - and all Christian religions - she was a VIRGIN when she gave birth to Jesus. That's pretty impressive. She was chosen by God to have It's kid. She is now a saint - and from what I understood when I was a Catholic - we didn't pray TO Mary - we prayed through her. Asked her to pass our prayers onto God.

I don't believe in any of it now. I think Mary was fooling around and she got pregnant. Her son happened to be HIGHLY Spiritual so. So much so - that the whole world went crazy for him. And if he was that important - they couldn't have him being a bastard (although that's okay with me) - so they made up the whole blessed virgin mother story.

If the Catholics feel it helps them to pray through their blessed virgin Mary - why not? Religion is just a tool to help us be better people. God is working through all of us. It's not our place to judge others for what they think or believe as long as they are not harming others.

Namaste!!

You have to understand what virgin meant in those days. It really had nothing to do with an intact hymen, but rather any woman who had never married or borne a child was considered a virgin. This moniker lasted well into the 1500s. Think of Queen Elizabeth I, The "Virgin" Queen. Hardly a true virgin, she never married and never bore offspring. The bible has been translated out of original languages and nuances and meanings alter with each translation, as do nuances and meanings of words alter over the years. However, to answer your question: It imparts a greater mysticism about the nature of Christ and the "immaculate" woman who bore him. It was meant to be an ideal for women to follow.

Well... I'm not a Catholic n I don't aprove of praying to anyone but God...

BUT... I know that Saint Mary (pbuh) was one of the 4 chosen women...
The others are Hadrat Khadija (pbuh), the Prophet's first wife... Lady Fatima (S'), the Prophet's daughter... and either Prophet Arron's (pbuh) sister or daughter... I don't exactly remember...

So... Saint Mary's (pbuh) status in Islam is very high... :)

Catholicism promotes this practice to transfer the importance of Jesus to Mary, whom God chose as a vessel for Jesus' birth. Who then worships a vessel? People who pray to Mary are appealing to a dead woman. Neither does she have any power whatsoever to answer our prayers or intercede for us. The satanic statues and other false images associated with Mary are just as bogus. They have no spiritual basis whatsoever. Jesus said: "No man cometh to the father, except by me." Why then, would we need to pray to a dead woman? Makes no sense.

Just want to answer (((((CJ))))) Mary(s) never sinned she was infallible before Jesus was born and after.

Edit: the fourth is Pharaoh's wife, mentioned in the Quran.

Mary is *NOT* just any woman who had a baby.

She was chosen from the beginning of time, created by God specifically to be HIS MOTHER! WOW!

And, yes, she is a mere mortal like us....but that is exactly the point! She is a mortal like US, yet she had the courage and grace to say YES to God!

We honor Mary and ask for her prayers on our behalf ( that is what praying is- asking- it is NOT worship).

Solomon's queen was Bathsheba, his mother. Just like King Solomon, the King of Heaven listens to the requests of His Queen, HIS MOTHER ...and ours.

Do Muslims pray to the Kaaba when they are performing the hajj! or, do they pray to the city Mecca every day they direct their prayer to Mecca! or do they worship the black rock that fell to the feet of Adam! do they! I don't thinks so, but it is what Muslims do, and you wouldn't accuse them of praying to a building.

Maybe you are not trying to be disrespectful, but my dear, that is what the question seems to be. Why is it so hard to understand, or believe them when they say they do not pray to her. She is not God, she is the most honored woman on earth as in heaven. Christians are not the only people who believe that, Muslims believe that as well.

This is an honest answer. I hope you can read it, and try to understand the Christians point of view.

It stems from un-scriptural books that they added to the Bible. If you think about it, it makes even less sense.

God needed a perfect sacrifice, so He came in the form of a man (Jesus). This was because all men and women are born with sin on their soul. However, we now have a woman who was born without sin. If that is the case, what is the need for Jesus to be conceived, let alone born. If Mary was immaculate, you would've already had the perfect sacrifice.

As stated before, Mary was a sinner in need of a Savior, just like every one of us.

Mary was a sinner that needed to be saved by Jesus. Mary isn't a virgin anymore. After the miracle virgin birth of Jesus, she had sex with Joseph and had many children. She plays no role in salvation, and she's dead, so she can't hear anyone "praying" to her.

Catholicism is a Babylonian cult, and they worship the "queen of heaven" whom they are calling Mary to deceive the masses. True believers are not fooled.
