Or a priviledge? Do you think it is ever acceptable to take away this ability from someone without their consent? What about programs that offer financial incentives for sterilization? What about conditional (somewhat coersive) sterilization - like if a mom abuses her first child, she could avoid or minimize jail time by agreeing to be sterilized...?

unfortunately most in our society think its a right.

I think women who use abortion repeatedly as birth control should be fixed.. I think women who continue to have babies addicted to cocaine or with fetal alcohol should be fixed (know one woman who had 5 kids all were put for adoption shortly after birth - my friend has 2 kids.. this woman has had a 6th who is so baddly messed up its in permanant hospital care.
I think people should have to pass some kind of a test before becoming parents - you cant drive without a license.
I think people who are on welfare and keep having kids and asking for more welfar should be fixed or told there is a cut off.
I think people should be more responsible when they decide if they are going to have kids - but most people are NOT thinking of the kid - they are thinking of themself and how much they WANT a baby... purely selfish!!!

with over 6 BILLION people on the planet, andour environment deteriorating every day becuase more and more people are being added - it is irresponsible to allow people to keep pumping out babies...

we would NEVER allow other species to run amuk

We can't even forcibly castrate child rapists, so the law certainly would never allow the forced sterilization of bad mothers or fathers. We have a Constitution in this country that prevents cruel and unusual punishment, and forced sterilization has been interpreted to fall under that category. You have to take the good with the bad when you live in a nation that believes in individual rights for all. And financial incentives could be interpreted as coercion: the woman's lawyer could later state, "It was cruel to make Ms. X choose between taking the money to feed her drug dependency or keeping her fertility."

I think you need a license to have a kid. 2 years of parenting classes and deep psychological analysis included. Way too many screwed up people running around in this world (I'm one of them) because their parents never should have reproduced or had some serious counseling first. People think that having a kid is so easy and a great thing and nothing changes. But it's the biggest change you'll ever go through in your life.

I think that people should have to get a reproduction license, in which you have to be at least 18 and married one person must have a job in the relationship you must pass child clearances an a psychiatric evaluation. But if you have to have a license i think birth control should be free and so should all gynecological visits.

All women are born with ovaries so i would say its a right. If you stole something should your hands be cut off? If you hit someone should they also be removed? instead of facing jail time?. If a mom abuses her first child or is known to be abusive they would probably take her children away, therefore its not necessary or right to force a woman to remove her ovaries

Thats a tough one. Making it a priviledge could be a really slippery slope.

I do not believe humans can objectively judge who should and should not have children. Look up the history of the US and eugenics and you might be in for a shock.
