I've flown to Oz 4 times. I always go via Singpore. I've used a variety of airlines, and can highly recommend Singapore Airlines. They have maximum legroom, (in economy-business class just too expensive) the meals are great, the hostesses pleasant.

All flights on this route have to be good. But I have a leaning for Quantas and do beleive they have still got a 100% safety record. An economy seat should be fine if it is an Exit seat. The routing is a matter of choice but Singapore appeals to me.

I flew with Cathay Pacific, stop over in Tokyo. Cost about £530 economy return. Use expedia.com to search for cheap deals.
Good luck!!
