Erm the age of consent in the UK is 16 it was 14 for males although I haven't had reason to check whether this has changed since I was 14.

So basically once a person is 16 they are entitled under law to have sexual reationships with whomever they choose.

However if you are a parent and you want to stop your 17 year old then its simple. Say while you live under my roof you follow my rules if you don't like it get out and support yourself.

If you ask me if its wrong for an "adult" to have sex with a 17 year old I would have to say no generally. If it were me and I was satisfied that they were mature enough to make the decision rationally I would have no problem with it. Most girls that age just bore and irritate me though so its unlikely I would want too.

Although it is legal in the UK; my own experience of having had a flirtation with a 17 year old male four years ago (I was 30), convinces me that - regardless of law - this is not appropriate behaviour unless said 17 year old is exceptionally mature for age (He wasn't!). Most people under 20, whilst pretending to be savvy Young Adults, are in fact frightened little children in disguise. Todays' children grow up much too fast and it really isn't right: However mature a person looks on the outside; it's their emotional development that is key to whether they are mature enough for a relationship. In general, enjoy the beauty that they bring to the world, but leave well alone.

depends where you live in terms of the law and the age of consent.
also, if the adult is a carer to the 17 year old, or vice versa, i think in the UK that this is covered by the sexual offences act.
also if either the adult or the 17 year old "lack capacity", e.g, a person with a learning disability who doesn't understand the implications of having a relationship.
another matter is the age difference and any possible issues around this. lets be honest, a person in their 30s has a bit more experience than a 17 year old in general.

Where I live, having a relationship with a child under the age of 18 is against the law. It's called Statutory Rape and Endangering the welfare of a child.

Depends what state you live in and what kind of relationship they have. If there's sex, it may be against the law but if not then probably not. If you live in the US you can use the link below to see the laws in your state.

18 is the legal age, it depends on how old the person dating the 17 yr old is but once they turn 18, they are legal to date whoever they want

Depends where you live. Some countries do, some don't. Here in Oz, 16 is the age of consent.
