Yeah, call either the IRS if it's your federal refund, or your state dept of revenue for a state refund, tell them you think your refund check was stolen. But I don't know how you can say you don't know the correct amount of your refund check? Don't you have a copy of your tax return? That should tell you how much the refund should be. But by talking with either the IRS or the state dept of revenue they should be able to tell you if the check has been issued, and if it was was it cashed or not.

The question is who you filed your taxes though? If you went and did your taxes yourself and were expecting a check though issued IRS then you need to contact them though the website. You should still have your paperwork and all you have to input is what your paperwork states on your total refund. If you do not have that information then you will have to call the IRS and talk to them directly explaining your situation and they will further your with the information. If you check shows sent out and its been over several weeks or a couple of months follow the prom ts on the website.

Now if you went though a private tax prep business they should be able to assist you further.

Did you prepare your taxes or did someone else? There should be a record of it somewhere. Contact the IRS, & they will be able to tell you if the check was cashed. If not, they may stop payment on it if you feel your check was stolen. I'm not sure how they'll handle it, just call them & good luck. :)

If it's a federal refund, call the IRS. If it's state, call the state. Tell them what happened - they can see if the check has cleared.
