What can I do to make her stay special? She's staying with her daughter for the rest of the week and she's coming to stay with us for the weekend. Anytime anyone stays with us I always put fresh candles in the bathroom and flowers in their room but what else can I do?

Magazines. Nothing is worse than not being able to sleep in a strange bed and not being able to have something to do. And depending on her tastes and your situation, alittle basket of chocolates or candies, wine or fruit. Don't forget a small pitcher of water and a glass.
Other than that, plan some activities she likes, some with just you and some including your husband. Maybe even one with just your husband, her son. I would talk about him, and ask her about details of his life.
This is a nice question, I'm glad someone else has a good relationship with their mother in law. I did and I miss her as she passed over 15years ago. Have a great weekend.

Breakfasts are always big around my house when people come. Make a french toast casserole the night before and some fresh ground coffee in the morning. If there isn't a tv in the guest room, consider putting one in for just while she's there.

All that stuff is nothing more than surface fluff. Although it may look good the greatest thing you can do for her is to just be you!!! Treat her how you would love to be treated yourself.
Remember the golden rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Why not ask her to show you how to make one of your husband's favorite dishes she mad when he was a child? (don't tell her if you already know how) I don't do anything special when I see my in-laws. I just be myself.
