Most aircraft manufacturers use a line. First the fuselage is assembled(can be in a number of sections) Wing sections and empenage are added, landing gear, power plants fitted and avionics installed then of to the paint shop.

Pretty much the aircraft is built on a computer first. Then all the sub assemblies are built from the computer designs, put together and flown. There is alot more detail than that but you wantedthe basics. The 777 was the first aircraft built in this matter. It was flawless for the most part. Thanks to the symplistic systems and advanced non intrusive welding techniques, aircraft can be designed and built faster than ever before.

There is an assembly line. One department is responsible for the wing, one for the fuselage, the rudder, etc, Then another department to put all those things together. Then another to check if everything is OK, And the most scary part..the testing. I heard that for example the 747. It has 4 engines. the test is one by one they will test if one engine can support the 747! One engine running!! DAMN!! then the worst.. Turn it all off, then restart it all.. If it doesn't start, you're dead!

The frame is a skeleton--aluminum ribs are attached to a keel--like a ship--then the cock pit and tail are added--it is wired for electrical power--hydralic hoses are run and the engine controls are strung--the wings are added then the whole body gets a skin--the interiors are finished and finally the motor are mounted. tires and gear add to the mix and the paint scheme is done. Add some fuel and radios and off you go

Small planes just come out of hangers but larger jets have different companies providing parts such as the 747, the engines are mostly provided by roles royce. Another thing is that the A380 super jumbo had its parts brought in from all over the world.
