A serving size of cereal, per the exchange system many nutritionists use, is 1/2 a cup of hot cereal and between 1/2 to 1 cup of cold cereal (depending on the type: flakes, puffed, etc). Depending on their lifestyle and individual needs a person generally needs between 2-4 servings for breakfast. 4 is admittedly on the larger size but it completely depends how often you eat. I choose to eat 6 times - 3 meals, 3 snacks, and have 2 grains in my breakfast (along w/ 2-3 protein and a fat and a fruit) and around 11 total a day. it is totally up to you when you want to include your carbs in your day, and if you don't eat them at night/afternoon and have no energy w/out them in the morning what you're asking is not only fine, its good! Protein and fat give you longer lasting energy - but cereal will give you the faster carb kick. Fruits have carbs in them too so keep that in mind when you need a quicker energy fix. Don't overdo the carbs in the morning or you will get a blood sugar spike and plummet, but if you are getting the energy from it then it sounds like exactly what you need. Listen to your body! To lose pounds I have found that eating smaller amounts often will help, and portion size is everything. Learn the exchange system - it helps keep things clear.

One thing to keep in mind when it comes to losing weight: after you work out is the best time to eat carbs. They replace what you've burned off in the session and get stored in your muscles as opposed to getting turned into fat for storage. AND carbs are not your enemy. ((Did you know it's the ONLY nutrient your brain can metabolize? You don't eat them and you get slower!)) You'll want to have a good amount of protein but certainly eat carbs, especially for breakfast (that you'll soon burn off) and after working out (for healthy replacement).

Yes, definitely. Especially if the cereal is a high fiber, high protein brand. You'll jump start your metabolism in the morning, while being able to stay full til lunch or mid-morning snack. Always eat breakfast.

Only eat one of the two.. not both..
eating both will make you feel sluggish for a while because that's actually a LOT of food at once--it's not a serving size..

You would be able to move around and get your energy level UP if you eat one of the two-- because they are BOTH good choices!

Cereal and oatmeal are OK in the morning especially if you add fruit.
