I mean all you have to do is say "Sorry, God, my bad" and then go on your way as if nothing ever happened.

This charge is made at Catholics all the time, but non-Catholic Christians have made it even easier by making it unnecessary to humble yourself by going to a priest to confess.

Of course not.

As Christians, Catholic or non-Catholic, we are to love God and others. We do not do the things that offend them because of our love for them. If we make a mistake, we ask them to forgive us, because we love them and cherish our relationship with them. To purposely do "bad stuff" is not being a loving or caring person.

Sincerity is the order of the day....to look upon a persons heart and see what is in it. Its no longer what goes into a man that defiles but what comes out and we cannot decieve God. Forgiveness has always been by mercy and grace and any person that actually really goes before God repentant of sin is confessing to the One True Priest that mediates between us and the Father and that is Jesus Christ. So yeah, why would that person bother and there is verse that says sin with intent is trampling on the blood and we are implored throughout both testaments to keep the commandments of God. So any christian who has the attitude of forgiveness on demand does so at his/her own peril. Love in Christ, ~J~

Of course ALL do this. #1 you can't do it and just skip in to say I am sorry. You have to MEAN it and actually feel sorrow for your mistake to be sorry, not just lip service. God know the true heart, whether it be knowing sin or sin not intended, he KNOWS if the heart is really repenting. An unrepentant heart is not sorry either way.

Regarding the charge that others charge the Catholic denomination with this..... I am a former Catholic, my thought is that why is it that you need a human to forgive you in praying to God? If you have wronged the human, yes you need to ask forgiveness, but a priest has no power to forgive in place of the Lord Jesus. Jesus died so that we COULD come to HIM, DIRECTLY for forgiveness. I humble myself before the Lord Jesus and repent. The priest can not forgive or save me.

Christians, and everyone else in the world, sin because we are human. The bible says "all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." God looks into our heart and knows if we are truly repentent or not. Just saying "sorry, my bad" is pointless.

Where in the Bible does it say we can or should repent to any man (a priest)? He is not God and doesn't have the power to forgive our sins. Only God can do that.

You seem to think repentance is just mouthing words. It's not. It's about the heart. I don't seek to do anything that isn't Christ-like. No Christian I know does. Such is contrary to being a Christian.

"non-Catholic Christians have made it even easier by making it unnecessary to humble yourself by going to a priest to confess"

Umm, humbling yourself before God is even harder. I would say Catholics are the ones that have made it easier. :D

Matthew 24:25-27 (King James Version)

25 Behold, I have told you before.

26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.

27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

OK, let us reason together.

What is the 'secret chamber'? You go into a dark wooden chamber where there is a mesh screen between you and a priest. Both your identities are to be disguised by this (secret). You are suppose to believe that Christ is in this secret chamber, and confess to him, through a mere sinful man.

Guess the bible warns me about this huh?

No, I don't. I have a conscience which is spirit led, therfore I don't need a pastor or priest to confess to. God knows my heart, and because I am very aware of this I never, ever, think that I have the luxury of deliberately sinning and then asking some man to forgive me. Only God can forgive.

God is all-knowing and all-seeing! Y would I go confess my sins 2 1 man....who sins just like me! God knows it all....confess and repent to HIM! There is only 1 way to the Father and that is through the SON. I don't need a 3rd party to communicate with my Savior. I have the privilege to do it myself.

And know....it does not make it easy! Man doesnt convict GOD does!

And we can say, "I'm Sorry Lord", but that is not true repentance.

2Ch 7:14
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

True repentance is when u turn from ur wicked ways. Not continuosly repeat the same sin! The scriptue says-THEN....I will forgive them!

I wish you had left out the reference to Priests simply because I was looking forward to the responses to your post but I am afraid that now all you will get is Priest-bashing comments.
I am amazed at how many sinless ones replied to this, should when then say Protestantism is the religion of the pure and sinless?
