I was diagnosed with OCD near the end of my high school freshman year. Not only did it disrupt my social life, but it interfered with my academic affairs. The distress of being unable to cope with the disorder led me to depression. My life at school became unbearable. After much sought help my mother and I came down to the conclusion of trying homeschool. I enrolled in the Merrick Educational Center in Miami. The school offers a teleclass program for homebound students with various disablities. It truthfully made my life a whole lot easier. School no longer intervened with my compulsions. The teachers we're comprehensive and rather patient if I was ever unable to finish an assignment(Not mentioning the fact that they offered you a week to complete your assigments!). I completed my sophomore and junior year in the program. The spare time I had between classes while in the program allowed me to focus on improving and controlling the disorder. Thereafter I was able to finish my senior year in regular school. It's been 5 years and my life has progressed drastically ever since.

Now, in regards of treatment an excellent therapist and/or psychiatrist is key when treating OCD. I was fortunate enough to find both. My therapist motivated me to focus on ways of improving my condition with daily exercises, and my psychiatrist advised me on the proper medication to treat the disorder. Have you seeked professional help?

I thought I was alone in this situation. With my OCD unwanted thoughts, I can't concentrate or focus, & my unwanted thoughts pop up intensely when I'm studying & they run through my head REPEATEDLY the 1st 3 words I read in the book. So I get frustrated & put it off until later. & @ the last minute, I cram before the exam, & then the unwanted thoughts pop up DURING the exam, & I walk out with the test blank with no answers because I can't think. & the professors think I'm lazy. & when I try to explain my OCD, they think I'm using it as an excuse when I'm not.

I had Cognitive Behavioral Therapy back in my Senior yr. in high school, & his sorry methods didn't work out because he would encourage my former foster mom to punish me for every OCD act. That wasn't effective. I was on Luvox before, & I'm on it again. 300 mg so far & it's not working. & it's supposed to be the most effective. My psychiatrist told me that medication alone won't help. She told me to seek therapy & counseling, as well. I was also advised to join a support group.

I have my BA degree in Spanish, & my GPA is lower because of my OCD. I'm taking extra undergraduate classes, hoping to raise my GPA, & it's not working out. I feel like I'm going to school for nothing. & my relationships with people in general are poor. & my family HATES me.

My sister has suffered from OCD for many years, and I've never heard her talk about any naturopathic, chi, remedies for OCD. That doesn't mean they aren't out there. What did work was Luvox.

You can be an excelent student, You can afford good grades but you need to be sure that you can do it. Start believing in yourself. Dont let anyone tell you what you can or can't do. You will be what you want to be, don't forget that. Look in this link that I find for you: http://www.youselfhelp.com/tobeanincrediblestudent.html, I've been helped by someone else that recommend me this website. I believe in you.

I don't know the answer but I imagine it must be a very painful and disruptive disability and wish you well on your journey to recovery. I wonder if meditation and yoga would be of assistance in stilling the mind.

Go see a doc. Ask about Anafranil. It is extremely helpful to people with OCD. Go see the doc now. You don't have to needlessly suffer. You can be free of this.
