NAB Coronado

"Complex 320-325 at the Naval Amphibious Base Coronado looks like a swastika when seen from above. The final 'look' of the 6-building complex as seen from the air, was the result of an 'oversight' by Navy planners at the time. A draft study conducted by the National Register of Historic Places noted that the shape of the six-building complex was simply an oversight that went undetected during the Navy’s approval process.

The group of six buildings located were constructed 1969-70. The original plans submitted to the Navy for the project included the two central buildings which were intended to contain a boiler plant and a recreation room; and a single "L"-shaped 3-story barracks. The plan called for the "L" shaped building to be repeated three times and placed at 90-degree angles to the central buildings. It wasn't until after the groundbreaking began that Navy officials realized how the buildings would appear when seen from above."

That's pretty interesting -- I hadn't heard about that before. Typical government SNAFU!

Too bad the swastika, also called the Hackenkreuz, has been associated with the Nazis so strongly. Before the Nazi Party subverted it, it was a religious symbol for many different belief systems, to include some sects of Christianity, as well as an ornamental design, and a good luck charm. check out the wikipedia article.

What I find almost staggeringly hysterical about all this is the furor that has arisen NOW over buildings constructed 40 years ago. Wow, the conspiracies are mind-boggling -- these buildings were constructed just for the time when GW Bush would be in office, 40 years before he was even a candidate, to send a message to outer space about our New World Order. Of course, we all know that JFK was shot by aliens hiding behind the grassy knoll so that GWB could steal the elections from Gore and Kerry. What a bunch of maroons!

Very poor analogy. In Pearl Harbor, you had uniformed military forces attacking uniformed military forces in a surprise attack. That was it. On 9/11, you had a militant group who hides among the populace, attacking the populace in an unprovoked attack. To have Japanese restaurants near military bases isn't an issue, because 1: restaurants aren't ran by the military of the respective ethnicity, 2: the attack made by the Japanese was almost 70 years ago, 3: the war that ensued is resolved. Now, what part of a mosque being built near ground zero is similar to the points aforementioned? I shan't be holding my breath on this one.

When I look at the satellite imagery, and zoom out a little the two nearby barracks complexes look like thunder birds to me, along with the swastika form, which is an ancient symbol of good luck and divinity. Taken in it's totality, it reminds me of a sort of Native American Totem with the divine above two thunder-birds.

I'm pretty de-sensitized to the swastika form. I live in Korea where the form is a symbol of Buddhism, and is seen flying on flags from homes and temples all over the country. Pretty girls wear it on necklaces the same way christian girls wear crucifixes in the states.

It's not a BASE but a BARRACKS. But the barracks BUILDINGS complex looks more like a HOPI or HINDU religious symbol to me.
The barracks is at Coronado Naval Amphibious Base, California. It is actually FOUR buildings.
According to some sources, the building is part of the training facilities for Navy Seals, and is perhaps their barracks. It's nicknamed "The Seals Lair".
Apparently, the building was constructed prior to WWII, so the swastika symbology was completely unintentional.

In most eastern countries, the swastika shape means good luck.

The presumably correct answer above from 'Rik' is a great disappointment to me - I was hoping it would be Frankfurt-am- Main or Rheindahlen which would be more poetic.
