He enables us to do so.

Without His indwelling Holy Spirit.....no one is capable of believing on their own.

Believe in god, or believe in religion?

I do believe in a god, but in no religion , and my reason is the way that my life seems to be organized so perfectly by someone else. But I am not sure of anything, and the one thing I know for sure is that one day I will die and find out the truth. I don't know if it makes sense for you and I don't blame you if you dissagree. It's not important anyway. I prefere atheists way more than extremists

Another reason (very subjective) why I would rather wish to find out that god is real, is the fact that I can't accept the idea that when I will die, I will indeed cease to exist. The picture of an afterlife sounds so much better :-) But then again, who knows?

I believe in *a* god because I exist. Science can provide no possible explaination on how the universe came to be. It can suggest theories on what happened following the big bang, but not what caused the big bang, or where the original particles of the explosion came from.

I also believe in a god because I've seen some pretty wacked out stuff in my time. People talking in tongues (not jibberish, actual languages they didn't know). People in trances. And I witnessed what Christians refer to as a demonic possession, followed by an exorcism (in my mom actually, so I know the person isn't insane).

All of that combined tells me that there has to be a something more than just us. I don't believe Christianity has it right, but I do think something exists.

my thought is heavily based on what I can learn, see, touch and test, verify and again, verify. I grew up having to defend anything and everything that I thought was true. learned how the water cycle on the stove with a pot of boiling water, a lid to condense it, a bowl of sand to perculate it into the ground.

Faith in a god, can be scientifically established, if one will not discount the fact that God works within his creation. Point of discussion here, we know spontanious generation does not happen. We know that once something is sterilized, nothing every grows in it, (including bacterial medium (agar)). The agar is much closer to supporting life than hoping a one celled animal, if it could happen, could find food in the oceans basically devoid of anything.

The atheist will tell you there is no God, and I have yet to have one offer me a reasonable explaination as to the existence of time/space, the origin of life (abiogenesis as one wanted me to use this term, appearantly he thinks everyone here has a degree, my assumption is they do not), as well as other things we see and can test around us.

religion is all well and good, but I think the majority of it is not to enslave, (though it does) but it expresses the highest understanding that a group that practices it can understand.

I do not think that religion does anything for anyone really. I do know that a relationship with Christ changes lives, changes thoughts, changes actions and changes attitude toward others

I could basically write a lengthy manuscript about what I have seen, touched, tested, studied and why I am convienced that God of the bible, not allah, the moon god of islam (check it out, abram worshipped the moon until the LORD God called him from his pagan worship), is the only God. There is no other.

In him, we can have forgiveness of sins, be regenerated and live our lives more fully, more completely and have better relationships with those around us.

There is only one True Truth. Even God's Word to us declares that God is Light and in Him is no darkness (deception or lies). When a person has the Truth opened up to them; then they can say the Truth has been revealed. True revelation can only come through those who have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. The Truth will not only reveal new aspects about God but He will also open up new insights, wisdom, and revelations about life, self, and others around you and the way you perceive. Things will change because the touch of the Creator changes all who choose Him. This will happen because you are being transformed into His likeness.

IF YOU MEAN PROOF THAT GOD EXISTS THEN JUST OPEN YOUR MIND FOR A MINUTE..........
WE ARE HUMANS,CREATIONS OF A VERY INTELLIGENT BEING,BECAUSE IF YOU LOOK AT US,WE ARE INTELLIGENT TO AN OBVIOUS POINT THAT COULD NEVER AROSE OUT OF NO THOUGHT AT ALL.....
THOUGHT TAKES THOUGHT TO CREATE.
THE HUMAN EYE IS A MORE OF AN EXTRAORDINARY MACHINE THAN THE CAMERA WITH IT'S INTRICANT PARTS. OUR SKIN HEALS ITSELF, WE HAVE EMOTIONS.
LOOK AT ALL THE ANIMALS.....SO MANY IMAGINATIONS OF GODS. AND FLOWERS,AND I'M SURE HE'S GOT AN ETERNAL AMOUNT OF CREATIONS THAT HE COULD SHOW US IN HIS MIND.
THE PLANET AND THE MOON IS JUST THE RIGHT DISTANCE FROM THE SUN TO GIVE US JUST THE PROPER AMOUNT OF HEAT AND LIGHT......SOMEONE HAD TO PLAN THIS. AND WE NEVER GO OFF COURSE. THE PLANETS ALL STAY ON TRACK WITHOUT ANY REAL REASON EXCEPT GODS STRENGTH.
HOW DOES SOUND GO THROUGH THE AIR TO GO THROUGH A PHONE SPEAKER TRULY? OR HOW DOES THE COLORED PIXELS ALINE THROUGH A WIRE ONTO A TELEVISION SCREEN......SERIOUSLY NOW....THINK ABOUT IT.
SCIENCE DOES NOT EXPLAIN IT GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME.
I COULD GO ON FOREVER.
HE LIKES IT WHEN WE DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE HIS INTELLIGENCE.
I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU NOTICE WHY.......
THANKS FOR ASKING.

Because they're afraid of being ostracised by their family and friends.
Because they never knew any different and were specially trained to avoid questioning their beliefs throughout childhood.
Because they cannot attain multi-step rational thinking, and the "God" option is a lot easier to grasp.
Because they fail to grasp that nice =/= real, and that what they "prefer to believe" isn't necessarily a valid mode of judgement for existence.
