most day cares offer before and after school care. and most daycares are open to 6;00. At the daycare I work at the bus takes him from school to the daycare, where they are prompted to do their homework before playing. After that they can play with their friends, play outside etc. Most kids really enjoy the extra time spent with their friends.

When I had this problem last year (I got off work at 4:30 and my daughter finished school at 3 and was 6), i enrolled her in a program calles "Scope" at her school where they did activities and games and stuff and could stay there till 6pm every school day. They were also acailable on the kids half days so she could just stay there when school got out at noon or an hour early or whatever. If your school does not have that do you know a teenager in the neighborhood that you can trust? Or en elderly person or another family that has kids and there is an adult hom that you could get to help you or pay?

My daughter is only 3, so I don't have to worry about it quite yet. Like you mentioned, we have afterschool programs available in town. The other option here is that the local daycare will watch kids before and after school, up till age 12 I believe.
Your options are daycare, a home daycare, or a trusted neighbor. Does he have any friends who he could get dropped off with, and you could pick him up at their house after work?

I feel for you honey.....if it's just a couple hours of needing daycare, then perhaps arrange for a daycare to pick him up after school....I see the vans at my kids school, and a couple hours in the day won't make or break things, however I work part-time and I LOVE having those few hours with the kids right after school....yesterday we did arts and crafts together and painted some pumpkins and tshirts for halloween....so perhaps you might want to see if there is a way to get a different work schedule????

i do no longer think of you may save a babies interest in college for 8 hours an afternoon. save in mind that if the hours have been to verify the parent's working hours then it would be longer than 8 hours because of the fact of shuttle time to and from paintings. in my opinion, i might extremely see a later start up time so babies are in college later in the day (much less hazard for afterschool project mutually as mom and pa are nonetheless at paintings) AND the babies will actual be rested for college.

I would check withthe YMCA or the boy's club - they often provide financial assistance or waive the fees for people who can not afford the afterschool care . If htat is not an option I would call an area church , even if you are not a membe and see if they have any afterschool care .. they probably would help withthe fees too if you cann not afford it .

Check with high school students....that is who we use. In our city the high school is let out about one hour before the elementary and a lot of them are driving now so can drive to your house to wait for your child to get off the bus/walk home.

I would call the Salvation Army around your area. I take my two children to the Boys & Girls Club. Its very inexpensive, and they absolutely love it there.
