They fight with what they know......
So do we
Some of them (atheists) are very rude and obnoxious.....and downright diabolical. Others simply speak with sincerity and hold to their beliefs tooth & nail....but without being rude
My prayer is that when I defend my faith, I do it with the love of Christ at all times

I'm a theist, and have always been very curious about a wide variety of religious beliefs and philosophies. I don't think that curiosity is limited solely to believers. It could be that many atheists also have genuine questions about certain religious beliefs and practices. Since this is a forum on religion and spirituality, this is a good place to seek answers to such questions, not from some cold encyclopedia, but from actual practitioners of those religions. Also, many of the atheists I know have spent time studying religion, to the point that they've read the Bible, Koran, and many other religious texts, and can debate them quite skillfully. Another subset of atheists might be here to promote atheism, which is their right. I think there are as many reasons for being here, whether one is a theist or atheist, as there are participants in this forum.

Atheists go by what they think is right. Believers do too.If from the heart any person really wants to know the truth, and not just something they have been taught, The King James Bible will give them insight to the absolute truth. The trouble is, most people are set in stone in what they believe and will not bend at all. When it come to atheists, they don't believe there is God, so they will push anyone or anything away that goes against their belief. There are so many different beliefs among believers, but we all believe there is God. We will not allow anyone to change that fact in our minds and hearts. It is settled forever!
It doesn't matter who does or does not believe or what they do about it. As a Christian, I'm not looking for a debate. I am waiting on the Lord's return. He will then take care of every problem and will answer every question that we all have.

I'm an atheist, but I don't think the fight is fair or even sensible.
Some religious believers pit the mass of humanity's entire scientific knowledge against, err, a few bronze age and iron age texts that weren't trying to establish scientific truth but were trying to codify spiritual experience. Spiritual experiences of a particular people in a partiticular time. Which may or may not be relevant to the spirtual experiences of 21st century people.
Setting up such a fight devalues both. It's destructive, ignorant, and really stupid.

Well I guess it depends on your definition of "fair." I don't really see it as a fight, and if it is I'm just chilling on the sidelines eating popcorn so it really doesn't directly effect me.
Now, I think there are unfair statements made once in awhile. I've seen a few already this morning, but I usually refrain from responding because considering the people who make them, it's not worth responding. They've already made up their minds about Christianity/Christians and I'm not here to try to change minds.

I don't think your question makes any sense. I have seen many who are clearly ignorant about religion, many who are suffering from an excess of pride, some who are deliberately trying to spread false information, and some who are intelligent and thoughtful and pose interesting questions. Those of us who believe have the responsibility of knowing what we believe and why before we ever engage in debate with anyone. And not all challenges have to be answered. Since we have the benefit of prayer to aid us, there should be nothing we cannot overcome.

Fair? I guess it's fair in the sense that we don't necessarily have to respond to the insults to our intelligence. Usually that's exactly what the argument is though, an accusation of stupidity rather than an actual reason why they don't believe.

Yes, most of them do, and I respect them for that. The ones who have to be insulting, mocking, or hateful aren't. But there are a few bad apples in every barrel. There are also some believers who are worse than many Atheists.

Who cares, really
If it is a debate and not an argument then all sides are fair, but usually it is bottled up as a sarcastic remark of "Your Bible is a bunch of fairy tales", so to these I say why bother
But if there is a good discussion {which I mind you is rare} then yes they are fair
But in ALL religions and non religious, you have the Good, The Bad and the Ugly

I think it's a little like having a snowball fight where one side gets to put rocks inside their snowballs and the other doesn't.
To be a Christian means you are supposed to be meek, gentle, kind, patient, etc.; so your answers should not step over a certain line. However, an atheist does not have any obligation to act any particular way except how they want to, so they get to use the "big guns" when it comes to this particular fight without being told "A good atheist wouldn't act that way."

There are a lot of people on both sides who don't think out their answers and basically their attitude- whether apathetic or aggressively condescending shows through. I always appreciate thoughtful and sincere answers but its no sweat off my back if someone is acting like a jerk. I just hope that they grow out of it & get saved!
