There was not enough time to turn the ship to avoid the iceberg... (not enough warning ... ship was going too fast... rudder of the Titanic wasn't large enough for a ship of her size... etc., etc., etc.)
There's no way for "the crew" to break up an iceberg... you'd have to have something along the lines of a missle or massive quantities of explosives to do anything to an iceberg. Not exactly something which was standard issue in the mid 20th century on a CIVILIAN commercial ocean liner.
And the story was told by the survivors and those who came to rescue them.

A small key is what sunk the Titanic...it opened the lock box in the crows nest for the binoculars which would have given them more warning time to avoid the collision. The key was not transferred to the new crew when the shift changed.

The other answer is well stupid. The TITANIC hit an iceberg and if memory serves me correct it was not common for an iceberg of that size to be where the TITANIC hit it.

Since the lasers and guided missiles as well as advanced radar was not yet invented, how the hell are they going to break the iceberg before they got there?

They did not know the ice was there until it was too late and it was too big to break.

Because it was supposed to be unsinkable, so they weren't worried about iceburgs.
