I don't know why some claim that, considering... brace yourself for a large post...
----------------------------
The Christian view of a fiery Hell is based off of the Judaic belief of Gehenna.
Originally it was believed that when someone died they would go to a place called Sheol, and there they'd remain until judgement day. Everyone went there regardless of who they were or what they had done in their lifetime.
At some point after the Jewish people were living in Jerusalem, they changed their belief in Sheol so that it was split into having 2 halves. One side (Abraham's Bosom) was a place of comfort, the other (Gehenna) was a place of fiery torment. Depending on your life you would go to one of these places and await judgement day.
Christianity then came along and changed the idea once again. Rather than people going to Sheol, now they simply went to Heaven or Hell (evolution of the Gehenna/Abraham's Bosom concepts). It's believed that when Jesus came. he did away with the judgement day requirement, and people went straight to where they're supposed to. There's no real Biblical basis for that, however.
But the problem is, Gehenna itself has no apparent religious basis for it's creation. By all accounts it seems to have been inspired directly by Jerusalem's immediate surroundings. There was a valley called the Valley of Hinnom close to Jerusalem, and it was here that the Canaanites used to conduct human (child) sacrifices to one of their gods.
When the Jewish people were living in Jerusalem, they used that valley as basically a garbage dump. Criminals and people who were either not worthy of, or never received, a proper burial were taken to the Valley of Hinnom along with the garbage. They constantly burned the valley to control the stench, disease etc that would have occurred otherwise.
From that it's easy to see from that how the idea of Gehenna was formed - a fiery place where the evil went after they died.
(repost as I didn't feel like writing it all out again)

So the Christian view of the afterlife can't be true. It's because people do not bother looking for that proof that the believe in the Hell/Heaven idea has persisted.
To answer the other part though... If the Christian God created us, the reason he'd punish us for not choosing him is because we have the choice to make. Adam and Eve didn't have to make that choice. It was only after their fall. God basically said "Ok, forget you guys then. If you want me, I'll be here." If people don't choose to come back to him, they remain outside of his grace. It's really no different than coming back to apologize to a friend before they'll bother with you again.
But as I said, that's if the Christian God created us. Personally, I'm not Christian.

Larissa,
Good Morning! Hey What do you know.... About this GOD... that you speak About?
Have you Read His WORD, the Bible?
OR.... as so many .... do you just have a Secular Opinion of GOD.... just as our money says... " In GOD we trust " when the Majority Do Not Know GOD.... and DO NOT CARE TO!
Where did you get your concept of Hell....? Surely Not The Bible.... but some Religion whose practices do not believe the WORD, but church doctrine .... Instead!
Hell is not the Problem.... IT IS THE LAKE OF FIRE... where Hell and Death will be Taken!
YOU..... say... " IF God IS REAL... AND..Created US " and .... IF... you believe that..... THEN.... we must have a Responsibility to .... OUR CREATOR? ? ?
(Ecclesiastes 12:13-14) Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
(Ecc 12:14) For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
PLEASE..... see my Blog / 360 for some Things... that may be of Interest.... for... ONE... SEEKING.... GOD?

There is no God.
Think about it. We all sin. Most of us pretty badly. If there is a hell, all of us will go there. Well, most of us. A lot of us.
So, Hell/Satan has all the souls... God has none! Maybe Ghandi, and a couple more, but that's it.
So technically, heaven must not exsist because well... there's no souls there. So God doesn't exist either because he (I hope!!) is not in Hell.
Now, seriously, why must you take everything so literaly? What they mean by "burn in hell" is "will have a difficult life".
Doesn't that make sense?
(yes, I know the first part made no sense ;-) )

There are many reasons why some Christians would say that but I think there are many sincere atheists who at their deathbed turn to God they didn't believe to exist and ask for forgiveness just in case God really exists. At least, by law of probability or wnatever law is applicable, atheists have nothing to lose but everything to gain who before they die, profess belief in God.
God had given man reason and abilities to discover His existence. If a human person were sincere and humble enough and really seeks the truth, he will always discover that God exists.
There may be Christians who will be burned in hell because in their lives they deny by their words, thoughts, and actions that God exists.
There may be atheists who will go to heaven because in their lives they follow their innate sense of goodness we call conscience in their dealings with their fellow human beings.
But of course, I believe deep in my heart (without proof?) the majority of Christians will be saved. I cannot say that with atheists even if Christ died for all, Christians and atheists alike. All I know is that God doesn't force a human person to enter heaven if he doesn't want to.

I have no arguements just plain facts, God did not make us sinners, Adam & Eve was sinless in the garden, until satan inticed the serpent causing the downfall, now since the time sin enter into the garden, we all are born under sin, But God also gave us a way to escape sin & that is through his son Jesus Christ. So don't think God put mankind here with sin in them he did not, they were sinless at first, so put the blame on satan.

in case you do not have self assurance in Christianity, there is not any ought to ask a Christian approximately why God is doing each and all the flaws it rather is occurring. between an aetheist and a Christian, or for that remember Muslim..., it rather is like a accepted individual vs somebody who's been brainwashed. A Christian might provide you a proof to any question, even however once you evaluate each and all the anwers, a number of them contradict with one yet another.

1Ti 2:3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior;
1Ti 2:4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
1Co 15:23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.
Rev 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshiped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
Rev 20:5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
Rev 20:6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

God does not punish non-believers. God gives all people a choice. You can choose to believe even if you haven't seen or you can choose not to believe but seek proof of His promise. If you choose not to believe, the consequence of your choice is clearly stated as Hell. He doesn't send you there, you do. He wishes us all to be with Him.
God made us, that is true. But the first sin is what gave us more knowledge then we needed to live a happy life on earth with no Hell consequence to choose.

I've come to the same conclusion, but from a different angle.
I think if you are a Ted Bundy or someone like that, maybe you are annhilated and don't exist anymore--but I think that whatever happens after life will happen to all of us; reincarnation seems to make sense, actually.
I heard it put in an interesting way that maybe our bodies are just like radios--we're tuned into a certain frequency, but just because you turn off the radio doesn't mean the radio waves are gone. Something to ponder, definitely.

boy this answer will be long
ok
God created the heavens and the earth,
when Lucifer, who is Satan, rebelled,
God created hell for him and his angels
now
God created us with free will
we can do whatever we want
man chooses to do what he wants, which will always be evil
because of the sin at the garden
sin separate us from God, always
God gave us Jesus to cleanse us from sin, His blood was shed for you to be once again with God
those who do not believe that Jesus Christ came from heaven, was born of a virgin
was on earth to show us the way,
died on the cross for our sin
and 3 days later rose from the dead,
will go to hell, simple as that
why
because you rejected the gift from God
which is eternal life in Christ Jesus
you rebelled,
just like Satan
capisce?
need scripture, email me, i dont have my bible with me
