Or is it because you have your hands full doing the work that should be shared with other nations who sit back and bask in the security the USA provides them?

There has been only one sensible answer so far.

I am of the belief that sanctions won't work against Burma. It's not working in Zimbabwe, for example. The Chinese are propping up the country with arms so any demonstrations are likely to be crushed for the time being. What has surprised me is that the government has allowed demonstrations for 9 consectutive days!

I hope that change will happen soon for the sake of the people of Burma - how it will happen I have no idea.

DEAR IGNORANT PEOPLE, THE SAME PEOPLE WHO ONLY STARTED GIVING A DAMN WHEN YOU SAW BUDDHIST MONKS PROTESTING AND BEING BEATEN:

I am half Burmese as my mother comes from there, i have always had a fascination of the beautiful country. I know that it is A LOT more complicated than your very ignorant views suggest. Why have you only started taking an interest? This has been going on for decades, Burma has only known military rule, it hasn't been free for many years, even before this regime.

If you truely knew anything about the situation in Burma you would stop your Bush baiting as it is not needed, stop bringing other problems to Burma. Let me tell you a fact to store in your little brains:

President Bush has been a big opposer of the Burmese military junta. He has made quite a few comments about Burma. Also, he drew up a draft resolution for Burma, which was subsequently vetoed by the corrupt governments of Russia and China. Tell me now, who do you now think is profiting from Burma's natural resources, hmm? We want to help, Burmese people want the help of Western countries as there is more hope there than in the "helping" hands of Russia and China. China and Russia have made vast amounts of money from the export of weapons into Burma. Now the world is taking notice, but only after the oppressive regime has strenghtened beyond belief. Why does it take mass protest for the world to notice? Why does the Prime minister only speak out when something terrible happens? The reason why we never hear of the terrible pain in Burma is because the regime isn't media friendly.

Sensible questions get sensible answers, but once you include Bush in the equation people make stupid assumptions on matters they know nothing about. Do NOT forget the people of Burma, they need us.

i think you will find that he just upped the sanctions on Burma and gave a very tough speech today my time. there's not really much else the US can do bar voice disapproval. may-be you should voice your protest toward the Indian PM or the Chinese president, they would be the only political voices who would be able to influence that petty thuggery which is driving a once thriving country into the ground.
and i couldn't resist mentioning that oil has been the major influence in this recent monk uprising, as i am informed was the last up rising in the late 80's, (cooking oil that is) and its recent price spike.

gcbtrading - the security the US provides??? The world is now far more dangerous thanks to the US.

Oh, and what about the 25,000 innocent men women and children who were killed in the lovingly named shock & awe camapign?

And you say the other counrtues should join in? Well, the UN had a plan over Iraq, but the US lied to the world about WMDs, ignored the UN, ruined a country, killed thousands, used the same prisons Sadam used to abuse prisoners and think the world should thank them?

The only thing they secured in Iraq qas the oil......and that's all Bush is interested in.

G.W. Bush doesn't get to decide what happens.

That's Dick Cheney's job.

Dubya just gets to speechify and travel around on air force one playing with himself.
