The Human Tailbone (Coccyx)
These fused vertebrae are the only vestiges that are left of the tail that other mammals still use for balance, communication, and in some primates, as a prehensile limb. As our ancestors were learning to walk upright, their tail became useless, and it slowly disappeared. It has been suggested that the coccyx helps to anchor minor muscles and may support pelvic organs. However, there have been many well documented medical cases where the tailbone has been surgically removed with little or no adverse effects. There have been documented cases of infants born with tails, an extended version of the tailbone that is composed of extra vertebrae. There are no adverse health effects of such a tail, unless perhaps the child was born in the Dark Ages. In that case, the child and the mother, now considered witches, would've been killed instantly.
So why did your “god” give you a useless tail bone?
The only reason I can think of is.... Oh Evolution!

Whether a deity exists or whether its the result of natural selection over millions of years does not matter for this answer. Because it doesnt change the funcitonality of that bone. It helps distribute weight correctly when sitting, it assists in heavy lifting...many many practical functions. Deities, due to being supernatural, are outside the realm of science and thus should not be considered in that context. This is the study of the observable rules and how it works; whether real or not doesnt matter. We STILL need to learn about the world we exist in. And supernatural beings play no part in that. Heres what I mean: A being as powerful as the Abrahamic deity could have created the universe 10 minutes from now with all this memory being retroactive. How does that help anyone understand anything? It doesnt. Believe what you will. If you think god has a place in society, fine. Have at it. But it conflicts with science, and in science, it would only cause problems if applied. We do live in this world, and we do know what it seems to be. That a deity could retroactively invent all that by definition excludes the deity from the realms of observation. Edit: Who is #1 (That was a ridiculous ending wasnt it?): Thats a gnostic concept: The universe exists as æons, eminations from a divine source that get less pure as they expand outward. At least, thats what their philosophy said. Just wanted to give you the correct word for it :)

Well, the spine has to end somewhere otherwise there would be millions of tangled tails all around the world and my body might be in UK and my tail might be wrapped around that of Putin's in Moscow (perish the thought!)

Mine is crushed and very painful. Thank God I do not have a tail!

Because my God didn't make man, he started a Chemical reaction with some protiens and around 4 billion years later we ended up here.

Get with the programme! Not even Hawking and Sagan believe in evolution anymore.Neither did Einstein,Newton,Faraday,Fleming or Pascal.Evolutionism is just another religion. You cannot disprove God via empirical sciences. There is more hard evidence for alternative theories.I seek Truth via Yeshua(Jesus) and writings inspired by His Spirit AND science.Evolutionists just rely on their superstitious pseudo-science,which is more akin to Metaphysics. The emergence of 'vestigial tail' accounts disprove evolutionary THEORY.Which Darwin himself had real issues with.HaShalom Yeshua.

Babies have been born without arms, legs, reproductive organs, etc. Babies have been born with with extra arms, legs, heads, eyes, nipples, etc.

The DARK AGES were dark because the people who lived during that time were very superstitious and made the world a dark place.

I don't have all the answers, but I do have FAITH that everything happens for a reason, including my tailbone. Maybe God gave me one so I'd have something to break when my clumsy butt falls down the cellar steps, and won't cause bad back problems. I'd rather break a tailbone than a spinal disc.

Not true. The coccyx is still used, just as many other supposedly vestigial organs are.

Silly. Your coccyx is where a little indivdual jesus lives in each person on earth. Not very far from our a**holes.

In a few million years we will not have one.

To those who do not believe in evolution here's a perfect example: Barack Obama - Mike Tyson.
