who created God? and if you're going to say something like "he just is" save your breath, I am looking for a real answer "he just is" or "it's his will" is not an answer, and I have heard all that before, let's try for something substancial or at least imaginative! Any response along this line will get a negative rating, so just keep it to yourself.

paulo and mark185- my heart has not been hardened by pride nor am i arrogant, or have a nailed shut mind you don't know me so you cannot presume to know my heart. i would have let the isralites go because i care for and love my fellow brothers not out of fear. i am simply trying to find answers for myself, you don't need to insult me for that. I simply don't think that "he just is" is an answer just like when my dad used to tell me "because i said so" now maybe that is my flaw, but I don't see how that means I have hardened my heart. maybe it just takes a little more than blind faith for someone to believe but at least i am searching instead of completely closing myself off, so why don't you just stop acting like you know me and you know what i believe. if you don't like the question then don't answer and move on.

capt zeemboo - brings up a very good point, in one breath you tell me that humans cannot presume to know about god, and in the other breath you tell me all about god....very confusing

"You can not have a creation without a Creator" is a true statement. The question now becomes are there things which exist that are no part of creation?

Science currently teaches that energy is eternal. It neither comes into or goes out of existence. It can, however, alter its form so that it becomes physical. It can also leave the physical realm and return to energy. It is this belief that is the basis of the "Big Bang" theory. Energy, whether in the form of quarks and liptons as proposed by Stephen Hawkings, or whether in the form of cosmic strings as proposed by others, somehow suddenly made the transistion to "matter", and the physical universe that we know today was birthed.

But I am not aware of a credible scientist anywhere who does not believe that non-material things existed prior to "creation". The debate in science today is not about whether non-material things exist, but about the nature of them.

Science usually concludes that just as the material universe does not appear to be an intelligent being, so the immaterial universe has no intelligent being or force behind it.

Religion teaches that the immaterial universe does have Intelligence, and that the material universe was not chance but something planned and directed by that Intelligence. That Intelligence is given the name "God".

Too many people picture God as existing within the universe, and thus having to have a beginning (and an ending) just as the physical universe does. The fact is that the physical universe exist within God. He transcends both time and space and it unaffected by either. The physical universe is just a small part of who he is. He was around before it began and will still be there long after it is gone.

Only created things need a creator. God is not a created thing.

Well, it is then about your examination of the word "Creator" A builder in your idea. The builder did not create the lumber and stone used in the building he built. You can call the house a "creation" most will call it a building and it is not alive. We just use material God has created to assemble things. And man can not create life. Edit: No, man can not create life. God gave us the capability to reproduce, that is NOT creating life. If you think you can create life try making a fish, a dog, cat, yes even a human.

That is as much a mystery to Christians as it is non-believers. God, according to the Bible, was there from the very beginning in Genesis 1:1. There is no where in the Bible that says He was born anywhere. The only thing we are told of Himself is that He Is. In Exodus 3:14 Moses asked who He is and God simply told him "I AM". I know that this isn't the kind of answer you may be looking for. Its presumptous for finite beings such as ourselves to think we could understand fully an infinite being such as God. We are too small. This is probably why He reveals himself in ways that are seen in the various stories of the Bible. He gave us Jesus to know what He is like and how to be with Him forever. That's all we have until He decides to reveal it to us.

What came first? The chicken or the egg? Some say it was the egg, but I say it was the chicken!

So what came first, creation or the Creator? I say it was the Creator. Since we measure time by the number of oscillations of a particular atom, there was no time before the Big Bang, because there were no atoms. In fact there was no matter either. God, who exists outside the physical realm created all that exists, as He is timeless and eternal. He was not and could never be created nor destroyed.

Why do you want to put arbitrary physical limitations on the Almighty being? That just doesn't make sense to me.

God always was. I understand this might not be satisfying to you, but such a concept is perfectly acceptable to scientists. Prior to the discovery that the universe had a beginning, scientists such as Einstein hoped that the universe would be found to be always existing. Einstein bitterly opposed the Big Bang because it sounded too much like the story in Genesis.

It's an interesting question which would require a lot of imagination to give the answer you want, but you won't get it from Christians, as you can see! You asked them to think and pissed them all off!

I've wondered about it myself, and the only answer I can come up with is eternal recurrence, though that doesn't really require a God. But to say that God "has always been" just makes me wonder wtf he was doing for the eternity that lied before creation? Was He just sitting there (in nowhere) beating off or what? Did He have a TV??? So many questions!!!

God is not a creation, but an entity of three. If you are not religious, there is no point in explaining or trying to explain it to you. It is the same as trying to explain to someone why black is black and white is white.

God has also been conceived as being incorporeal, a personal being, the source of all moral obligation, and the "greatest conceivable existent".

The real answer is what you scoff at...your heart has been hardened, like Pharaoh's of Egypt when, despite the signs and wonders, he still refused to let the Israelites go.

In the Bible, God said He always was and always will be. He was never created, nor destroyed. He knows everything. He never had to discover a new fact or find something that was lost. He is called the Ancient of Days. He says He is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end.

Why Christians created God! (something about needing a father figure).

Not sure how the universe started though.

If you are after a serious answer, then time loses all meaning at the speed of light, and the ideas of cause and effect break down. Not that you need a sentient God to go creating everything, but heck, you may as well believe in one if it makes you happy.

Good luck with that. I totally agree with you ... "God always has been" is a cop-out.

They'll tell you that you can't understand God ... even though they'll tell you for the rest of the day exactly what God believes on every other subject.

They'll also pray for you. Just watch.
