So yeah, he's been asleep all day, all night then all day again. He's really flitches when you smooth him, which he doesn't normally do.

He'll normally sleep, go out, eat, just ponder about.

But he's not eating, just sleeping and hissing for no reason.

He's about ten years old now, do you think he is dying?

I think he might just be a bit ill. 10 isn't very old for a cat, it's middle-aged really.

How about taking him to a vet before wondering whether he's dying or not? He could just have an infection or something. If he's got a virus I suppose it's possible he might die without veterinary intervention - but it's quite likely he can be saved if you don't hang around too long. Don't write him off just yet - don't you feel off colour and want to sleep a lot sometimes?

10 years is not very old for a cat, both of mine lived to 20. It sounds as though he has some sort of pain which you need to investigate as soon as possible.

It is a scary thought taking your poorly cat to the vet and not knowing what they'll say but if it is something simple and treatable you'll wish you'd done it sooner.

Good luck, and give him lots of fuss.

I think it's a possibility. I went through the same problem, my cat Bear was 14 years old when she passed. She got all crazy and started to talk alot more(She was a tortoiseshell) and would hiss alot. It's a sad process to go through. I know I'm still very sad about her passing

Well, he obviously doesn't feel well. Get him to the vet right away. Cats can live 16 years or longer. I've spoken with several people who had a cat that lived to 20.

It sounds, that cat is sick - take him to a vet. 10 yrs old isn't THAT old for a cat, mine is 10 and he's all right, does all kinds of things he always did, chews on a broom, etc. Just take your cat to a vet ASAP.

I think if you dont get him to a vet soon, he will probably die. It sounds like he may be in kidney failure; was he drinking a lot more than usual? Poor kitty, take care of him.
