Yeah, I can just see the evolved women of the U.S. and Canada complying with the order to wear niqab; covered head to foot in ugly fabric, while skinny little mustachioed men whip us for showing a bit of ankle when we go to do the grocery shopping; only being allowed out if our sons or husbands give us permission and accompanied us.

(snort) Yeah, like we'd let THAT happen. LOL

Of course, nobody would be allowed to remain Christian, atheist, agnostic, Pagan, Wiccan, Jewish, Buddhist etc. we would all be given the choice to convert or die. Yeah! They wouldn't let the churches stand! Are you crazy? We convert or we are beheaded! I thought everybody knew that!

And we'd have to pray five times a day. They'd build a giant mosque where everybody would have to go every day and some guy would climb to the top of the spire at sunrise and sunset and holler loud and wake up all the neighbours.

And all the liquor and beer stores would be closed and liquor licences suspended from bars. There'd be no more music and the Imams would seize the TV, radio and newspapers and control the media with an iron fist.

What? You thought it would all stay the same except for the scarves? No,o,o,o,o,o,o,o, sir.

Been there. Done that. No, they weren't handing out Tee-shirts.

"Islamic rule" is actually pretty vague, just as "Christian rule" is vague. It depends on how heavily the conservatives control the issues. In Istanbul, 8 years ago, Islamic rule seemed more sensible than anything that has happened in the Bush years during the US.

However, as power shifts to Islamic fundamentalism (just as when power in this country started to turn to Christian fundamentalism), it gets nastier. I haven't been to Istanbul recently. I can only imagine that non Muslims are running scared.

The problem is not the religion. The problem is the tolerance of the people ... By-and-large, fundamentalists of any religion are pretty scary people. When they are in the majority, or at least as a powerful minority, I believe that society starts to regress (forsaking science for mysticism).

The questioner is calling human beings to purchase right into a faith like they might purchase an apple or a self-help e book... that is, which religious tenets will effect in my ultimate temporal happiness or own wealth. instead, human beings could ask which faith is actual authentic. in spite of which faith will make you extra rich or satisfied, the info could ascertain the priority. the reality is that Jesus Christ actual died on the pass for our sins and rose from the lifeless 3 days later. This actual befell in history. we've first-hand debts of this going on penned by utilising the human beings who observed this ensue. So why, the questioner asks, is Islam the quickest growing to be faith? Like others, i do no longer think that that is. i might propose that the fulfillment that it has in protecting modern Muslims in the fold has little to no longer something to do with economic fulfillment or civil peace... for many Muslims stay in poverty and are in areas that have not familiar genuine peace for hundreds of years. No, Islam retains human beings in the fold with the sword. In Islamic worldwide places, converts from Islam are murdered... for genuine. in reality, only "blaspheming" the Prophet is sufficient to get you killed, regardless of in case you do no longer convert far flung from Islam. So, please, spare us the peace and cohesion line.

Depends on the country you're residing.

I'm guessing your "home town" is America? They have a Constitution that would not allow one religion to rule over the public--without the people's consent.

I am puzzled by one the answers to this question. It is one that I have seen popping up over and over, "It wouldn't be any different than under Christian fundamentalism." I believe the Bible is literally true. I try to live my life according to the message of Christ. I even believe that God created the heaven and earth. But even with all those terrible things on my resume, if I were given absolute control over the U.S., it would look nothing like an islamic nation governed by Quranic law.

Read the Gospels sometime. How did Christ treat the woman caught in adultery? Did Christ shun those with political views different from his own? Did Christ minister to the poor and dissenfrancised? Paul goes into even more detail in the letter to the Romans deliniating how believers should submit to their secular government as "ordained by God." It is a logical fallacy to take isolated instances of abuses by Christians and say that Christian society is no different from Islamic society. It just isn't true.

Countries like Saudi Arabia and Iran base their laws directly from the Quran. Their is no separation of Church and State in Islamic law. No major Christian fundamentalist in this country is advocating the death penalty for immorality or is in favor of making homosexuality a crime or is forcing conversion to Christianing with threats of violence or is seeking to prohibit other religions from being free to function and proselitize as they wish. Is this true in Iran?

Yeah, it would be a little different, but it would not be much worse than the towns with legalistic Christian rule.

It would be the same feeling if it was ruled by the American Family Association (Christian). They share the same ideas.
