If you follow the progression Jesus was the main dude and was supposed to remain the main dude. His followers only job was teach others.

Years after his death you see the start of a hierarchy forming and you start to see leadership positions etc. I think Jesus didn't want that.

It's kind of like when Israel demanded a king rather than be led by Yahweh directly.

So in essence, the church would rather have their leaders and such rather than everyone being equally led by Yahweh.

Funny how this happened whenever Jesus was not physically around.

What you say makes a lot of sense. Man is imperfect and will always be imperfect. People are free to believe what they want. My belief is that I don't need anyone or anything between me and Christ. That way, the line of communication does not get corrupted by another human.

You must be kidding.

Jesus never intended to stay here. He always planned to return to heaven, and he always planned for his church to maintain a stable hierarchical system of government ... both local and international ... that would withstand the persecutions and purges that he knew were sure to come.

Jesus appointed St. Peter as the leader of the apostles, and the apostles served as the first bishops of the church, empowered to appoint necessary priests, deacons, and other bishops in order to support the various congregations they established, all around the world.

If Jesus hadn't set up his church in this way, the Catholic church would suffer from the same chaos and lack of consistent doctrine that is found in all the various protestant denominations.

Instead, after almost 2000 years, we Catholics have the same doctrines and the same church structure that we had in the beginning.

One church. One creed. One sacred deposit of faith.

Centered firmly on Jesus Christ.

Humans ... tsk tsk ...

You make a great point, and you are absolutely right!

Think about it though, if it's taken Jesus this long to "prepare a place" in Heaven for us, what a beautiful sight it must be!!

Keep praying for the hierarchy so they can join us in Paradise.

Actually you are only half correct, Jesus Himself established a hierarchy by singling out Peter as the one to whom He would confer a special authority upon and by giving him the keys of the kingdom.

Every system needs a leader.

Christ is our leader.......and He leads us through the power of God the Holy Spirit.

I'm glad that the Lord commissions pastors & teachers to lead. Without them, there would be confusion.

Same as today... The bible and God is secondary to money and power and pride.
