Last night my kitten went out for a wee and when he didn't come back we got very worried. He returned about midnight looking shaken and unable to walk properly. He has spent most of the day sleeping and cannot walk. He won't eat or drink anything, he cries if you try to pick him up. What do I do? I live in France and can't find a local vet that is open at the moment. I have no phone so can't call round, and all my neighbours are at work. I am so worried about him, he looks so pitiful, please help, even a temporary solution would be appreciated, until I can find a vet! Thank you so much.

He is due to be neutered in two weeks, I hope he makes it. Thanks for your words of wisdom so far. I really do appreciate it. We think he may have fallen as there are no external injuries we can see, eg: no blood. It looks as if he has hurt his right back leg.

Thank you all so much! I found a vet who kindly reopened surgery for me. Bruno has broken his pelvis, but he has a good chance, everything else according to the x-rays is intact. He has one week to show improvement, 2 of those he is not allowed to eat and can only drink minimally on the 2nd day.. The vet seems to think he was kicked by a sheep as we live in the country and have a whole field of them opposite us! Anyway if I get the chance I will keep you all informed. Thank you again, you are all very kind.

Unfortunately, it looks as if Bruno is losing the will to live. He has convulsed on more than one occasion tonight and he is unconscious at the moment. He is
not in any pain as far as we can tell and is breathing very slowly and infrequently, but he is not going to make it. I hope he does but he is really very poorly and all we can do is wait. Thanks again to all of you, please understand if I cannot bring myself to give a best answer. Love to you all and your lovely pets. Maria;xxx

Sounds like he might have gotten hit by a car or attacked by some other animal. PLEASE find some vet anywhere as it sounds like if he won't even drink that he is on his way out. If he makes it through get him neutered if he isn't already and make him an indoor only cat. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!

Hello,
Im so sorry to hear that, I understand you are worried I would be too but just keep a close watch on him and let him sleep, and try and find a vet asap (i know you probably are) dont pick him up as you could be causing more pain which you dont want, i know your tying your best, maybe contact animal shelters or vets even outside of france just for a bit of advice on what you can do in the meantime.
I hope he is okay please email me to let me know.
Best wishes,
=^..^=

I know it's hard but just sti tight and wait till the Vet is open then take him there immediately. It could be anythign and until you know what it wont help to speculate and worry even more.
Try and get some water into his mouth and don't move him about if he's in pain.
I hope everythign goes well but make sure he stays indoors after this incident, that's the safest and most comfortable way for them.
Good luck.

Keep him warm and if you have a dropper you could give him water or milk and water that way. If he doesn't get any fluids he will die of dehydration so even if the only way to give him some is off you finger then try the best you can. Don't try to pick him up too much if he's in too much pain but you could get a cardboard box and put a blanket in it then transfer him into the box, that way when you take him to a vet you only have to pick the box up. We'll keep our fingers and toes crossed for him and you that everything will be alright. xxx

Hi maria, thank you for updating everyone, i wasn't on-line to answer your original question but i'm so pleased its all worked out for you. I'm sure, now that your kitten has had medical attention, he will recover and go on to lead a full and active life. Poor little soldier, i bet you're giving him all the love and attention he needs but can i give you a little bit of advice maria? Please get yourself a mobile phone! It needn't be the latest, top of the range, does all kind of phone, it just needs to be able to make a call! You need one now that little man is unwell, and you'll have peace of mind knowing that you can call anyone at anytime. You don't have to sign any contracts, get a pay as you go phone on a cheap rate, virgin mobile are great, i've just phoned them for you and the man said if you call them from a land line phone its - star button followed by 447953967967. Phone them when you get a pay as you go phone and virgin chip and they help you all they can! Good luck to you and puss, i hope he gets on ok x

stay calm
if he is eating and going to the toilet OK then this is a strong kitty
he could have fallen and pulled a muscle
if so he wont want any one to go near him
but check his pads even if he is telling you to go away he could have a thorn stuck in between his pads
if all is OK there then with a firm hand rub along the leg and joints from the hip you will feel if he's broken it if this seems broken bandage the leg firmly until you can get to a vet
as long as he is eating and drinking and able to go to the toilet this can be a temporary helping hand to him

He may have been clipped by a vehicle, he could have a broken hip or pelvis, but whatever it is it'll be painful for him. Try to keep him as still as you can until you can get to a vet, and maybe try to drop some water into his mouth so he doesn't dehydrate. Don't give him human painkillers, they can be toxic to cats.
Let us know what happens, won't you?

I am so sorry you went through this tragedy. I, too, have recently lost a kitten, and it was terribly hard to deal with. I hope your 11 year old has accepted this loss and is remembering the good times they had. Bless you.

Keep him warm, have you got a hot water bottle you could fill with warm water ? sounds like he's in shock, talk to him, stroke him and spend as much time as possible with him.Do a search on the internet for emergency vets in your area and for cats suffering from shock.

I would find a vet too ASAP and don't let him outside again he is not prepared for all of that, keep him in the house so you will know he will be safe.
