I think you are right there did they speak with local authorities or just to do balloon release though?
I thought they ruled out the sightings?

Because they know she is not there, the same reason they didn't go to Malta after all the reported sightings of her too!

As I recall, the Portuguese police played down those reports from Morocco as unimportant, as they thought they had a British suspect based near where the McCanns where staying.

Because I guess its just speculation and they've probably been advised by whoever, police, lawyers etc not to raise their hopes every time someone reports a sighting...
There were sightings of Ben Needham in Rhodes, Salonika, Greek mainland. His mother didnt go either...I guess there's not a lot they can do in that instance...
To the person above...The photo was only taken three weeks ago, so how did they see it months ago??

This is not a new sighting. Madeleine's parents have seen this picture and they know it isn't her. Its another media spin. If the public think that Madeleine is alive, the parents can't be guilty, can they?

in all other 'possible sightings' the mccann's seem to have traveled in the opposite direction...which i found very strange.

They were there in June, apparently the McCanns have always believed that Morocco is the most likely place for her to be, bearing in mind that they have seen more of the the evidence than any on here, it's logical to go with them.
