if there is a handicapped person living there then the landlord needs to install it. but you might want to check with your state laws just to be sure.

were you promised one in the lease?

if you change the home you need the "owners permission" and in writing......
the owner may need a "building permit" for changes to the front of the house..

where i live any change to the front of the house results in among other things..the lose of "home mail delivery"

so get a statement in writing that a "ramp" can be built and where and how...and who will be paying..

my son was in a wheelchair 10 years ago..and I put in a ramp..as soon as he got out of hospital and I was given a rebate..for the ramp on my taxes via "his handicap"

I used the rebate to install a rail..for a lift for the chair.....

so .........try asking the owner..rather than "demanding"..
big difference..

good luck..

if a rental is not equipped for handicapped people there is no "LAW" or even a reasonable accommodation. It is entirely up to the LL discretion to let a tenant remodel his property. He under no pressure to accommodate anyone.
If it advertised as wheelchair access able that is a different story

A landlord, by law, has to ALLOW for reasonable accomodations, but they don't have to foot the bill for it.

The tenant has to pay for it, however, you need to work with your landlord to determine who they want to have the job done.
