the best one you can get is the one your dr uses. I bought one from the store and you hear so much backgroud noise it's hard to hear the babies heartbeat

I think doppler's are a bit of a waste of money full stop. By the time you get to 30 weeks you are seeing the doc or mw every 2-3 weeks and if you can feel baby moving then you know everything is okay.

I recently read on a reputable pregnancy website that after 28wks if you get an empty toilet roll and place it 4in's or 10cm's below the navel, hubby/partner can hear the heartbeat. Don't know how reliable this is but worth a try! the babies heartbeat should be twice as fast as the mothers if you hear two different ones.

best of luck

Hi H you didnt say how many weeks pregnant you are?
anyway i bought a doppler - one that works from really early - some say 10-12 weeks, i was 13 weeks when i first used mine at the heartbeat was heard loud and clear then so i reckon it would even work before then.

I cant see how anyone can think that peace of mind is 'a waste of money' and waiting until 30 weeks? do they KNOW how long that feels like? and by then you can FEEL the baby anyway - its in the early days when you CANT feel baby that we want to be re-assured that all is ok in there!! :)

on ebay i bought one for £32.99 - free delivery. trust me its worth the money. i hooked mine up to small pc speakers tho - the headphones that comes with it arent so clear - a bit fuzzy and quiet. either use decent headphones or speakers for sure.

heres a link of one on sale today:

good luck with your pregnancy :)
