That quote is both scary and a tiny bit humorous.
Of course there are gay people in Iran, like others have said, they're just too scared to come out. They're censored and one slip up or accusation could mean prison or death. No way to live at all. In that sense he probably is telling the truth....there might not be any openly gay people in Iran, just thousands of repressed. That's the scary part. It's just amusing because he seems totally dense "We do not have this phenomenon, i don't know who has told you that we have it" and actually believes it *headdesk* not the type of dude you want in control of nukes.FFS he's such a delusional idiot, for him to be in charge of a country is just beyond belief.

He is probably saying what he believes to be the truth, but I think it is very unlikely that there aren't any gay people in Iran. Gay people are everywhere, in every country of the world. It's just that in some countries it is more sensible to keep quiet about it or you risk imprisonment or worse.

Iran has no gays or lesbians; yet it has a extreme value of transgender adult men who've intercourse with different adult men, because of the fact having intercourse with a guy who looks like a woman is way less of a sin than having intercourse with a woman. Iran is very almost as f*cked up as North Korea.

The President of Iran does not tell the truth about anything whether it's the nuclear weapons they're trying to develop or their meddling in Iraq and Afghanistan or their support of terrorist groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah. Why would he suddenly tell the truth about gay people in Iran?

If there are would they want to say it? I doubt it. I don't happen to think it is OK, but that is my own opinion. luckily in this country at least others who disapprove more, do not just express an opinion but here gays are protected somewhat by our laws and such, sadly other cultures still will not accept such diversity and actively encourage homophobia. Personally I don not care what people do in their private lives, I live my own, there again have we the right to criticise other countries over such issues?

Yes he was telling the truth. He believes in the " gay gene " theory and therefore eliminates anyone suspected of carrying it. The gay community should celebrate diversity and congratulate Iran on its " proving" that the gay gene exists by eliminating it.

Iran is not like the westen world where gays are ok to roam the streets etc etc, they would be killed if found to be gay and then they families i'm sure would be beaten. This is just the way of their life that is hard for us westen people to understand. Still each to their own .... just don't want them building the nuke bomb.

I think he is a little naive to say the least!! An average of 1 in 20 people are gay-Iranians being no exception-they are probably just too scared to say so because of attitudes towards homosexuality in their country.

I hope these questions about this statement are all rhetorical.
There are many, many gay men in Iran, and every other country in the world.
