It was the main indgrediant in a host of cure all formula's that emerged on vender carts at the turn of the 20 century (1900's). These also proved to be very addictive.
Later a so called cure to kick the habbit of these cure all's was invented from the main ingrediant that was used in the first place. This also caused a even more full blown addiction.
What was this main Ingrediant and whats invented from that ingrediant to stop the habbitual use of cure all drinks that cause a even more intence addiction.

Are you perhaps referring to Methadone being a synthetic form of heroin?
