i saw a ring advertised, it said "natural opal from brazil", i asked my jewelers do they know if they come from brazil and they said they are not sure,i really like this ring but the price is a bit high if it isn't a natural opal. I know that they come from Australia and Mexico but i have never heard of them coming from Brazil

yes they can be found in Brazil along with many other gems and semi precious rocks.

Known for its play-of-color, opal displays a brilliant range of rainbow-like colors when seen from different angles. It is 5.5 to 6.5 on Mohs' scale and is the birthstone for October. Primary sources include Australia, Brazil, Guatemala, Honduras, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Russia, and the U.S. (Nevada and Idaho). A doublet is a slice of opal glued to common opal, glass, or other material, and a triplet is a slice of opal glued between a base and crystal or glass.

I have never heard of an opal from Brazil. I would find another jeweler.

The very first opals came from mines in Yugoslavia and were popular with the Romans.
