Nicaragua's leftist President Daniel Ortega angrily chastised the U.S. for seeking to stop other countries from enriching uranium, which is allowed under the Nonproliferation Treaty.
Ortega said the United States, as "the only country in the world to have dropped nuclear bombs on innocent people," had no right to question the right of Iran and North Korea to pursue nuclear technology for "peaceful purposes."

Oh, I agree fully. Who does the US exactly think they are to dictate to other countries whether they may utilise nuclear power or not? They have the largest arsenal in the world by far, they are the only ones to have actually used nuclear weapons, and why shouldn't other countries enrich uranium? Its a way better method of generating electricity than burning fossil fuels. Just who exactly do they think Iran or North Korea will use such weapons against? Themselves? Do they really think these nations are so stupid? If they even hint of using such weapons against the US or their allies, they know the US will bomb them back with far more firepower. Jeez... I really don't understand this archaic way of thinking...

I understand that US is now prepared to share Uranium Technology on more liberal terms. The 123 Agreement with India is an indication.Whether it overrides Hyde Act is not clear. This has become a necessity for USA so that the cheaper Thorium technology will not be developed by others especially developing countries like China ,India ,Korea etc.It is not wise to go to USA and buy Nuclear Technology using Uranium and if some body is really prudent they should go in for Thorium based nuclear power or bomb.
Please understand that there is no "peaceful explosion"

I agree in principle - this is a game about two factors: power and risk. US has the power to police whether we like it or not, and it uses that power to risk-assess other nations. If the US feels that certain countries are a risk / threat then it addresses it. I do not agree with everything that the US does, and I think that if Iran wishes to use nuclear energy it should be able to do so - but there is also a risk involved in that - are they war-mad maniacs, that will nuke us at the first opportunity? I don't think so, but then that is my opinion against many other differing view-points.

There are double standards. As you pointed out, Iran signed the nonproliferation treaty, we know the scale of their nuclear capacity.
Israel however has never signed the treaty, they do have a nuclear program, which not too many people realise, and the scale of which is unknown, no inspectors have ever been inside, yet because Israel is apparently US's best friend they receive no criticism.
Unless the US is prepared to judge every nation equally they should have no right to pursue just one nation for their political means.

Iran additionally suggested initially that they weren't enriching uranium. shall we make a counter grant, the U. S. will end enriching uranium while Iran stops advocating the killing of all Jews.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is a known and identified terrorist, a former Revolutionary Guards commander and has aggressively expanded its business empire as part of his strategy of placing hardliners in key positions of power. General Yahya Rahim Safavi the current leader of the Guards is almost as extreme and like the president getting very rich by plundering the countries finances.
Ahmadinejad has stated his intention to wipe out Israel.
The problem is very simple. The US dropped two atomic weapons to stop a war and in doing so saved many, many times the lives they took. All the countries currently holding nuclear weapons have done so with little opposition. Ahmadinejad and his supporters are the first likely to get hold of a nuclear weapon and use it for a first strike even though they might get wiped out themselves - the ultimate suicide bomb.
If there is any chance of Iran getting a nuclear weapon it will likely provoke world war three and in the process bring horror, misery and destruction on Iran, Syria, Lebanon and most likely on Palestine as well.
The one hope is that Ahmadinejad already faces a lot of opposition in Iran and there have been a number of demonstrations against him. The country is recognising that either he goes or Iran will!!!!

I agree completely. The USA does not behave like a responsible nation so I do not see why they (and us) think we should be able to police the world.

Iran and North Korea pursue nuclear technology for peaceful purposes? HaHaHa...sooo funny, Iran hate us, The President of North Korea is a madman and you think they are peaceful HaHaHa...they can't wait to bomb us...LOL...better to prevent than to cure. I am an American and to hell with North Korea and Iran, let support our government since they probably know a little more than you and I and let not take side with the enemies like Jane Fonda used to do in VN and later had to apologized for her action.
