I was an eighteen year old Marine and was struggling with this and a Gunnery Sergeant addressed the issue like this. Would you rather be a corporal that kissed *** or a lance corporal that didn't. I nodded and thought to myself...lance corporal. In other words, everybody knows the guy is a kiss ***: his wife, family, him/her, colleagues, and so on. I would rather have self respect than a promotion. That doesn't change the fact that it's irritating but it helps me. Not to mention, when *** kisses get screwed over it is great.

If you want to get ahead anywhere in life you have to change your way of looking at things. Calling people are brown noser is usually from someone very young and not yet aware that you do need to mingle and you do need to sweeten abit to get ahead you need to mingle you need to socialize. Get involved. A smart business person says its good business its called ambition.

Brown nosers are in every aspect of life, not just work. and they are hard to tolerate to say the least. but, never fear, we're not the only one's to notice them. the people whose *** their nose is up, notice them too

I don't think about them at all. Those employees who tend to be rewarded the most are those who stay busy and produce results. I don't waste one moment of time worrying how others look to the bosses (although I do laugh to myself about them at times). I work to satisfy my own needs, and when it comes time to get that performance review and discuss compensation I'm able to state what I have accomplished and how I should be compensated in a very assertive manner.

I think that they are very smart people.
If brown nosing can get me that promotion,,or pay-rise I will brown nose until I choke.I don't care what my work mates think,,cause brown nosing gets you places you want to be,,and what matters is job satisfaction, not the opinion of workmates.Of course hard work and commitment are a better way of doing things..

It's a must in retail, and sometimes I get so irritated with myself for being so good at it. I balance it with a night bartending job where being nice is a choice, but I decide when people aren't customers anymore.

Most jobs have them. Always someone trying to do better than you the easy way. I think they make the job harder, and they are to stupid to realize it, but their job also. Never, ever, give one any information on what you plan on. Never, ever, let them hear you talking. Never, ever. let them see you do anything except work. They are trouble.

Its SO fake and it drives me nuts. We've got a few, too. Usually the back-stabbers of the bunch, too.

it's their way of competing since they can't deliver so they try to use social manipulations to get others down and themselves up.
