Drunks get flighty, that's why. Tell them you're diabetic. They'll be more understanding.
No, I know exactly what you mean (I'm from Wisconsin). Sometimes you have to be curt with people and tell them why you dont drink (health reasons, religion, OWI, your the dd, etc.) when you pass up a drink. People feel like they need an explanation when you decline something (even if it isn't their business). You would have to give a friend a good explanation if you declined to go to their wedding, right?
Give em a good story so you don't get in a barfight!

I wouldn't offer you a drink so therefore I would not frown and get mad! I respect people who don't drink and I would admire you for this (if someone were to offer you a drink in my presence and you declined.)

I don't offer alcohol, specifically, to anyone, unless I see them drinking alcohol. I'll ask if you'd like something to drink, and allow you to respond with 'Pepsi'...if that's your choice.
...and I wouldn't get mad...no one is important enough to make me mad.

I'd never offer a drink to any strangers, esp. women, there's some guys may kill me cause they'd think I'm harrassing their lover, (I was punched out in a bar for just 'looking' at a bikers woman!-so I'm cautious glancing at all women who have a man with them!)
