The War on Terror is just another way that the federal government can gain more powers. If we want to talk about terrorism, we can start by looking at the US federal government over the last 65 years, and see that perhaps this government that is becoming bigger is the biggest terrorist in the world. How many Japanese, Vietnamese, and Iraqi civilians must we kill? Terrorism is alive inside the United States. It's the reason why violent crime rose for the second straight year in this country. We kill each other more than others kill us.
The War on Terror is a strategy to make the people feel like they need to depend on the federal government. They try to make us afraid. They feed us with constant BS. I do not know how anybody can believe in a war on terror or that Iraq is a threat to our country, after all of the dishonesty and lack of intelligence George W Bush and this government has displayed over the last 7 years.
The only way to get rid of terrorism would be to stop funding this federal government, which would mean reducing troops in the Middle East and let them govern themselves like we allow countries in the rest of the world act. The only reason why people feel compelled to terrorize the US is because we have been in the middle of their affairs for decades. The War on Terror is a pre-emptive war with no retribution causes to make it not even the least bit moral.

It beats the War on Happiness.
We're fighting a War on Terrorists, not on terror. Terror is an emotion. Terrorism is a tool used in asymetric warfare (where one side is vastyl stronger then the other) where the weaker, smaller group uses tactics which cause the populace of the stronger side to become afraid.
Unfortunately you cannot defeat "terrorism" since it only a tactic employed by our enemies.
We are actually fighting a less-than-half-hearted attempt to defeat the terrorist network Al Qaeda, and we fought a seperate war to overthrow the dictatorship in Iraq, which had evolved into an increasingly bad situation in which we have (a) pissed-off the Iraqi citizens who used to support us but just want us to leave, (b) created a toerrorist-friendly training zone where Al Qeada deploys its future leaders to learn how to fight us, and (c) failed to meet any of our goals since Saddam Hussein was captured.
Should we fight a War of Terrorism? Of course we should, but it is not a war that can be won on the battlefield alone. We cannot pull-out of Iraq now without making everything there much, much worse, but we do need gradually withdraw the military while seriously finding a real solution to governing Iraq.
The Iraq Civil war is real and only gettign worse. The country has already begun "Balkanizing" that is splittingup along factinal and religious lines. One possible solution to form three self-govering states...one Shiia, one Sunni, and one Kurd with a single weak federal government and strong state governments. The Iraqi Army must be integrated with Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds serving, living, eating and learning side-by-side...and all sworn to defend all three states in Iraq. Oil revenuse must be shared fairly, and the Iraqis must decide how to do that fairly in their minds.
For us, the sooner we finish this half-baked war in raq, then sooner we can go after our real enemies, Al Qaeda.

There is no such thing as a war on terror. Terrorism is a political and military strategy! Col Hackworth said " Having a 'War On Terrorism' is as ridiculous as having a 'War on Flanking Maneuvers'. You'll end terrorism when there's no longer anything for anybody to get pissed off about."
It is great for the Republicans, a never ending war against people they don't even know will attack us! Brilliant! Great for corporate welfare! $200 BILLION more Bush wants for the war but he won't give $30 Billion to insure medically America's children! You know where his priorities lie! Did I say Lie?

The War on Terror, aka the Long War, is a pychops designed to enable the Military-Industrial Complex and their allies to be able to pull off a coup detat on the American People--silently but that is the most deadly form of overthrow of legitimate authority.(and all of the"you hate America, so get out." crowd you can f yourself. I love my Nation, but I fear its present government.) Without the fear that the War on a Noun brings in its wake there is no way that the American People would stand for the Patriot Act, Patriot Act II, the Military Commissions Act, warrentless searches, roaming wiretaps, and the suspension of Habeous Corpus, to name but a few of the things that have been pulled over on us.
Fact is that in any situation such as this "war", the first intelligent question to ask is who gains--qui bono--and who gains from this? Do you gain by being fear mongered to infinity? Do you gain by concentration camps being built by FEMA and the Dept. of Defense?(and just who are those camps for?) Do you gain by the waste of resources on an endless war against a faceless enemy? Do you--the average Joe--gain at all by the Military being in Iraq?
Now does Halliburton gain? Does Blackwater Gian? Does Northrop-Grumman gain? Does Shell, Texaco, or Exxon gain?
Does KBR gain?
And beyond all of that what is the insanity that cause many people to fear people hiding in caves across the world? Is Osama Bin Laden, actually Immanuel Goldstien--that is the real question! How can the worlds sole super power allow itself to be afraid of some "islamo-fascists"? And moreover is it sensible to give up the freedoms that they supposedly hate? Because if it is they will not hate us any more and that very soon.
Tip--go to the FBI's own website and find out for yourself that OBL is NOT WANTED for the 9/11 attacks. Yeah that is real information hitting you in the face!

Before I answer your question let me know what exactly is the definition of "Terror" and what do you mean when you say war on terror. Can anybody or anything terrorize, terror. Any ways I personally think that we should mind our own business and not interfere in what other people are doing.

i am from india . we have been facing terrorism for donkeys years now . the only thing i can say is that the people using terrorism are nasty , cruel and need to be stripped whipped and laid out on the desert floor till red ants slowly devour them to their death .
but having said that .... they are also right most of the time only they have chosen very wrong means to implement it . terrorism grows out of years of frustration and neglect heaped on a group / community / ethnicity .
the war on terror that is defeating terrorism by strong arm tactics is no more right or wrong than terror itself . it is because desperate times call for desperate measures ...kind of band aid on civilisation to be patched up via history ( when the winner writes it ) . it is one of those things like global warming which occur and we know the reason but we are powerless to stop it not because we are weak but because we realise certain things must happen , some disasters should not be paused , some things are needed for our mental evolution .... there goes my 2 cents

Amen surly! This is an information age war. We're still fighting it like a industrial age war. We should be doing a much better job countering jihadist propaganda. Instead our politicians are helping the enemy.
Instead of all the hand-wringing and negativity on Iraq, our politicians should be saying "We are fully committed to victory; if it takes 100,000 American lives and a hundred years of occupation we're going to win in Iraq!" But no, we undermine the effort and continue to encourage our enemies to believe they can defeat the world's only superpower while telling our allies that they're really not that important to us.
ra3356 - You've got to be kidding me!!! Their "business" is the destruction of Western civilization and the establishment of a worldwide theocracy.

It has been some what mismanaged, because they have gone with a conventional warfare strategy too often. I feel that diplomacy is our best friend to destroy the roots of terrorism. To wipe out those terrorists that are already around we need to use more covert operations since they can infiltrate enemy territory more easily and less visibly then large contingents of troops.
